About the role

Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a Mid-Level Electrical Engineer for our Hartford (Wethersfield), CT office. The ideal candidate will provide electrical engineering and design for water and wastewater facility projects, serving as lead electrical engineer when required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead electrical engineer on projects for water and wastewater facilities.
  • Supervise less experienced staff working on projects, and interact with clients and engineers from other disciplines.
  • Power systems design, including medium and low voltage electrical power distribution, generator design, motor controls, VFDs, lighting systems, equipment layout and related activities at water and wastewater facilities.
  • Prepare project specifications and edit corporate electrical master specifications as needed to suit each project.
  • Serve as the lead electrical engineer on multiple concurrent projects. Ensure the work is performed in accordance with scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Perform site visits as needed from project conceptual design through construction.
  • Perform electrical design work in AutoCAD and/or Revit as required by the project.
  • Perform electrical power system studies in SKM and/or ETAP as required by the project.
  • Complete construction administration tasks including review of shop drawings, replies to requests for information, change order requests and similar tasks.
  • Perform factory witness testing of electrical equipment as required by the project.
  • Monitor and participate in the field testing and start-up of electrical systems.
  • Represent the electrical discipline in client project meetings.
  • Interact with clients, contractors, and engineers from other disciplines.
  • Assist in business development activities such as proposal preparation.
  • Develop scope and fee documents for electrical portions of projects.
  • Fill the role of Project Manager for selected electrical projects.

Requirements

  • Knowledge in industrial power design, including medium and low voltage electrical power distribution, motor control, VFDs, lighting systems, equipment layout and related activities.
  • A good working knowledge of the NEC and related Codes.
  • Good communication skills, including interaction with clients and contractors.
  • AutoCAD experience is a must.
  • A Professional Engineering License is required.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Revit BIM software and SKM power systems software is desirable.
  • Experience with instrumentation and control systems is a plus, including field and panel instruments, operator interfaces, and PLCs.

The starting pay range for this position depends on skills, experience, education and geographical location.
