About the Role
This position leads the study, design, coordination, and construction administration of electrical and mechanical systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, industrial, and mixed-use facilities within a multidisciplinary MEP environment. The role combines technical leadership, project management support, client coordination, and quality control from concept through construction closeout.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design development of building electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, emergency and standby power, fire alarm, low-voltage, and communication/security systems.
- Perform and review detailed engineering calculations (feeder and service sizing, short-circuit, coordination, arc flash, load analysis, voltage drop, transformer sizing, lighting, and photometric calculations).
- Develop and oversee construction documents (plans, one-lines, risers, details, schedules, and specifications) to ensure technical accuracy, completeness, and coordination with other disciplines.
- Review and approve designs and calculations prepared by junior engineers and designers, ensuring compliance with project requirements and firm standards.
- Conduct mechanical systems design including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
- Utilize engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, HAP) for detailed design and modeling.
- Perform calculations and analysis to ensure system efficiency and compliance with relevant codes and standards.
- Collaborate with architects, electrical engineers, and other disciplines to ensure integrated system design.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and interns in best practices and technical skills.
- Facilitate and participate in design reviews and quality assurance processes.
- Serve as the primary point-of-contact for clients regarding engineering concerns.
- Prepare and present project proposals, progress reports, and technical documentation to clients and stakeholders.
- Proactively identify issues and provide solutions to meet client expectations.
- Produce and review construction documents including drawings, specifications, schedules, and technical calculations.
- Perform load calculations, equipment sizing, energy analysis, and system selection using industry-standard tools and engineering judgment.
Qualifications
A Professional Engineer (PE) license with 10+ years of experience is preferred.
