Electrical Modeling and Simulation Engineer
About the role
The Electrical Modeling and Simulation Engineer will develop, validate, and optimize electrical models and simulations for various electrical systems and products. This role involves working directly with customers and internal design teams to understand and define problems and scopes of work.
Responsibilities
- Model Development: Develop and maintain detailed electrical models for components and systems using Matlab / Simulink simulation software.
- Simulation and Analysis: Conduct simulations to predict the behavior and performance of electrical systems under various conditions. Analyze results to identify potential issues and optimize designs.
- Design Optimization: Collaborate with design teams to integrate simulation results into the design process. Propose design modifications based on simulation outcomes to enhance performance and reliability.
- Validation and Testing: Validate simulation models through experimental testing and correlation with real-world data. Ensure models are accurate and reliable by comparing simulation results with physical prototypes.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, software developers, and product managers, to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems.
- Customer Focus: Work directly with customers and their engineering team to solve problems through accurate models of the customer’s facility. Also, collaborate directly with customers to predict future performance through simulations of “what if” scenarios.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of models, simulation procedures, and results. Prepare technical reports and presentations for upper management and project teams.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest advancements in modeling and simulation technologies and tools. Implement new tools and techniques to improve simulation accuracy and efficiency.
- Specialized Expertise: Apply knowledge of power electronic converters, feedback control algorithms, machine learning techniques, software-in-the-loop (SIL), hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) to optimize the design and prepare the design for handoff to development teams.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering; PhD Degree accepted, experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- 1+ years related experience.
- Thorough understanding of 3-phase power systems.
- Thorough understanding of power electronic converters (rectifiers, inverters, dc/dc converters).
- Proficiency with Matlab / Simulink.
- Experience with PSCAD, PSSE and/or other electrical modeling and simulation tools preferred.
- Skilled developing control algorithms in C/C++.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills including troubleshooting both circuit boards, wiring, sensors, and firmware.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Able to work effectively in a team environment.
- Able to work with unclear requirements when faced with a first-of-kind task or problem.
- Basic knowledge of machine learning techniques using Python, PyTorch, or equivalent.
