Electrical Maintenance Technician

Summary

The Electrician is responsible for installing and repairing electrical systems, apparatus, and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment. This role requires the use of various tools and electrical testing equipment, and adherence to safety policies and procedures.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Notify supervisor immediately of any accident, near miss, or on-the-job injury.
  • Work safely each day and ensure team members adhere to high safety standards.
  • Understand basic industrial electrical codes and local compliance issues.
  • Read and interpret schematics and P&ID drawings.
  • Perform fusing, thermal overload protection, wire sizing, and motor theory.
  • Work with AC, DC, and servo drive systems (basic knowledge).
  • Conduct motor control and power circuit troubleshooting, including fuse sizing and motor amp readings.
  • Communicate with outside technical support for drive troubleshooting and control loop tuning.
  • Maintain plant electrical and electronic systems.
  • Develop and conduct PM and predictive maintenance programs for motors and panels.
  • Complete and maintain plant required records and reports.
  • Manage electrical drawings and updates.
  • Ensure access to the latest versions of PLC, Panel View, and Drive programs.
  • Update line motor data spreadsheet with current motor information.
  • Diagnose and replace malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures.
  • Lead electrical root cause analyses and establish monitoring programs for critical motors.
  • Test malfunctioning machinery and discuss issues with other maintenance workers.
  • Lead electrical downtime and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Replace faulty electrical components like relays, switches, motors, and position sensing devices.
  • Adhere to good housekeeping practices and maintain clean work areas.
  • Support electrical training of other maintenance personnel.
  • Coordinate and lead electrical training programs and efforts for the plant.
  • Notify management of safety concerns and comply with environmental compliance policies.
  • Work with outside contractors as instructed.
  • Lead electrical projects and installations within maintenance responsibilities.
  • Act as the main contact person for automation projects.
  • Attend annual training for new or improved electrical and PLC systems.
  • Comply with plant rules and safety regulations.

Educational and/or Experience Requirements
