About the role
The Electrical Maintenance Apprentice (AD) position is available in the Valdosta, GA Paper Mill of Packaging Corporation of America (PCA), a leading ideas and solutions company. PCA aims to be the leader in helping customers package, transport, and display products.
Responsibilities
- Work with key mechanical, electrical, and process personnel to support daily and monthly maintenance outages as well as annual outage jobs.
- Work with electrical maintenance/engineering and operations personnel to complete maintenance and capital projects.
- Complete necessary programs and training, as indicated in the Electrical Maintenance Apprentice Program.
- Supports the Mills goals for safety, environmental, and other areas of need.
- Utilize predictive and preventative electrical programs to identify and correct equipment issues.
- Complete assigned work for daily, monthly, and annual outages.
- Effectively complete assigned jobs for best result at lowest cost.
- Look for opportunities to solve issues, reduce cost, and improve performance.
Requirements
- A minimum age of 18
- A high school diploma or GED
- At least two years of full or part-time work in the last four years
- Ability to read, write, and speak in English
- Satisfactory completion of background check and drug screen
Qualifications
- A diploma from a technical college in industrial electrical or instrument maintenance
- Three years of service in the field of electrical or instrument maintenance (General electrical, instruments, DCS systems, PLC systems, AC/DC drive systems, LV/MV starters, power distribution systems)
- Three years of military service in the field of electrical or instrument maintenance (General electrical, instruments, DCS systems, PLC systems, AC/DC drive systems, LV/MV starters, power distribution systems)
- Completed a comparable certified E&I Maintenance Apprentice Program
Tests and Board Interview
- Five written tests covering basic mechanical principles, basic arithmetic skills, the ability to visualize three-dimensional figures, the ability to compare numbers or patterns quickly and accurately, and basic verbal ability.
- A structured board interview involving a review of each candidate’s work history, achievements and accomplishments, knowledge and skill acquisition, interpersonal skills and helpfulness, task-related likes and dislikes, and physical demands experienced on previous jobs.
Pay and Benefits
- Starting salary for the position: $24.12 per hour
- 1.5 pay over 8 hours in a day
