About the role

As part of the Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (EI&C) Engineering team, you will work collaboratively with a cross-functional engineering team executing custom project designs, meeting customer expectations, quality, schedule, budget, and goals, while ensuring project risks are mitigated. This intermediate role involves completing electrical and/or instrumentation design for a wide range of water technologies. Responsibilities include developing instrument/automatic valve lists, instrument/automatic valve datasheets, instrument installation details, assisting with panel schematics and I/O lists, supporting production facilities, participating in customer-facing factory acceptance tests, and assisting through commissioning.

  • Knowledge of and/or demonstrated ability to learn equipment and processes related to products and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Read, interpret, and comment on engineering documents, including P&IDs, GAs, process design guidelines, return of experience, and engineering best practices guides.
  • Interpret, comment, and follow contract and customer specifications.
  • Perform required calculations and select appropriate instrumentation for water treatment facilities, including all supporting documentation (instrument lists, termination drawings, instrument datasheets, etc.) with operator and equipment safety in mind.
  • Manage budget, scope, schedule, and proactively report risks and opportunities to project teams.
  • Select equipment and design complex low-voltage industrial control systems in compliance with UL and CEC for water treatment facilities, some with Class 1 Div 2 areas (single line diagrams/load lists, I/O lists, panel design and schematics, and network architectures) with operator and equipment safety in mind.
  • Support project bids and provide technical guidance to meet customer needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant or related experience.
  • Experience with design of complex low-voltage industrial control systems in compliance with UL and CEC.
  • Experience designing control panels and selecting equipment for use in Class 1 Div 2 areas.
  • Valid passport and driver’s license.

Skills

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (including coordinating, reporting, documentation, and presentations).
  • Understanding of hydraulics and fundamentals of fluid mechanics (preferred).
  • Understanding of basic water chemistry (preferred).
  • Strong focus on customer relationships (external/internal) and balance between customer and team needs (preferred).
  • Experience with control systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), HMI, and SCADA design and programming (preferred).
  • Basic technical knowledge in the field of industrial control systems (preferred).
  • Understanding of Low Voltage Power Distribution System design (preferred).

Pay

$50.00–$80.00 per hour.

Schedule

Occasional travel (15%) for client meetings, customer site visits, and/or visits to other offices.
