About the Role
You will report directly to the Construction Manager for all fieldwork in the electrical and instrumentation discipline. As the Electrical & Instrumentation Coordinator, you will oversee contractors’ construction activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications. You will also serve as the key individual for the team’s quality assurance program in this discipline.
Responsibilities
- Champion Orbia and site HSSE programs; enforce permit-to-work, JSA/JHA, LOTO, confined space, hot work, energized/electrical-safe-work practices, and lifting/rigging controls.
- Support daily toolbox talks and weekly safety meetings; drive observation, near-miss reporting, and corrective action closure.
- Assist in establishing the path of construction, temporary power, communications, cable tray, conduit, wiring, E&I device & instrument testing, commissioning, and turnover.
- Maintain daily reports for electrical & instrumentation construction and related quality assurance.
- Monitor contractors' work to ensure compliance with industry standards and project specifications.
- Participate in resolving inspection problems involving vendors, engineering, and contractors’ QC representatives.
- Provide surveillance of all electrical & instrumentation construction to maintain high-quality workmanship standards.
- Ensure work conforms to approved engineering drawings and contract documents; initiate action to correct deficiencies or defective work.
- Coordinate the resolution of electrical & instrumentation RFIs and field changes with Field Engineers and Contracts Administrator.
- Review estimates for field changes with Orbia Management.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors to meet safety, quality, and schedule targets, ensuring all documentation is accurate and completed prior to system walkdown.
- May include travel to Gulf Coast module yards for electrical/instrumentation scope to provide owner’s oversight and support quality assurance.
Requirements
- Minimum 15 years of industrial project construction management in chemical, petrochemical, or other heavy industries.
- At least 10 years as construction management/lead for an owner’s team with responsibility for electrical & instrumentation EPC field execution.
- Associates degree or equivalent experience in a construction discipline (Construction Management, electrical, instrumentation, controls, commissioning).
- Deep construction experience in electrical power distribution, instrumentation installation, control systems, cable tray/conduit, cable pulling/terminations, testing, and commissioning.
- Experience managing/constructing process modules with electrical, instrumentation, and controls scope is desired.
- Demonstrated HSSE leadership implementing site programs; OSHA-30 (or equivalent) preferred.
- Proficiency in AWP/workface planning, systemization/MC/turnover, electrical and instrumentation quantity tracking, loop checks, terminations, testing documentation, earned value, and digital field management tools.
- Deep working knowledge of relevant electrical and instrumentation codes/standards (e.g., NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE, ISA, NEMA/UL, IEC) and owner/contractor quality systems (ITPs, inspection/test records, megger tests, loop checks, calibration records).
- Demonstrated experience in constructability during design, with preference for modular construction/setting experience in electrical & instrumentation.
- Strong leadership in multi-contractor environments, with clear communication and disciplined reporting skills.
- Must be fluent in English.
- Work primarily in the field under varied site conditions; willingness to support extended hours/weekends during critical path activities.
- Onsite presence in St. Gabriel, LA, with the ability to spend substantial time at the outdoor construction site, including walking on uneven ground, climbing stairs, and ladders.
