Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement industrial control, instrumentation, and safety systems.
  • Perform all aspects of automation projects, including design, engineering, programming, commissioning, and post-commissioning support.
  • Create and update engineering drawings using AutoCAD or similar tools (electrical schematics, panel layouts, P&IDs).
  • Specify and select field instrumentation, control system hardware, and electrical components.
  • Develop and modify engineering drawings using AutoCAD or similar tools (electrical schematics, panel layouts, P&IDs).
  • Create and update engineering documentation and technical specifications.
  • Lead and support system installation, field testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize control system integration.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
  • Ensure compliance with industry codes and standards (NFPA, ISA, NEC, etc.).
  • Participate in project estimation, proposal development, and client site assessments.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 8+ years of experience in automation engineering.
  • 3+ years of AutoCAD experience.
  • Proficiency in industrial control applications, programming software, and databases.
  • Leadership potential with the ability to manage an automation team in the future.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Willingness to travel 30-50% across the U.S. and Canada (valid driver’s license required).

Technical Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of PLC, DCS, HMI, SCADA, and PAC systems, with emphasis on Rockwell Automation.
  • Proficiency in electrical schematics, control panel design, and P&ID development.
  • Experience with industrial instrumentation, control valves, and process analyzers.
  • Understanding of process and combustion safety principles.
  • Working knowledge of industrial networking, OT cybersecurity, and network architecture.
  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards (UL, CE, IEC, ISA, etc.).

Preferred Experience (Strong Assets)

  • P.E. license preferred.
  • Experience leading automation project teams or engineering groups.
  • Proven success in commissioning and troubleshooting automation systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of Rockwell (Allen-Bradley) and Siemens control systems.
  • Experience in heavy industry or manufacturing environments, particularly in the steel or metals sector.
