Founded in 1995 by a group of experienced certification and testing experts, QAI is an independent third-party testing, inspection, and certification organization serving the building, technology, and construction industries. We are seeking an experienced Inspector to support the Electrical Product Safety Department at our Rancho Cucamonga, CA location.
About the role
Our ideal candidate is motivated, hands-on, and interested in field inspection and laboratory work. This role involves travel within the US and Canada.
Responsibilities
- Perform inspections of manufacturing facilities to ascertain conformance with specific quality and manufacturing requirements.
- Inspect products such as building materials, plumbing and gas components, electrical components, and other products as required by QAI.
- Perform Special Inspections (SI), Follow-up inspections, and other inspections to CSA and NFPA Standards.
- Maintain a high level of technical competence in the field of inspection.
- Manage day-to-day activities related to scheduling and reporting.
- Write inspection reports detailing evidence viewed during inspections and recording any identified issues.
- Become familiar with QAI’s quality system, procedures, and inspection report templates.
- Other duties as assigned by the VP of Operations.
Requirements
- Technical diploma or degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent.
- Basic understanding of building codes, electrical codes, construction methods, plumbing and gas assemblies, and electrical systems.
- Familiarity with standard office software and strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand quality documents and inspection reports.
- Ability to write accurately and concisely using technical language.
- Well-organized and detail-oriented.
- Ability to travel throughout Canada and the USA upon request.
- Valid US driver’s license.
- Valid passport or ability to obtain one; must be able to travel internationally.

- Sound professional judgement in the applicable field of inspection.
- Conducts inspections safely, adhering to all applicable safety rules and guidelines.
- Ability to communicate inspection requirements to clients.
- Knowledgeable of best inspection practices and works to implement them.
- Ability to perform inspections of client facilities and identify areas of improvement and nonconformance.
- Ability to review documentation and processes to determine conformance.
- Sound knowledge of manufacturing best practices.
- Ability to review corrections taken by clients and decide if they are acceptable.
