Merrick & Company is seeking a full-time Electrical I&C Engineer for our Energy, Manufacturing & Bioprocessing department in Chattanooga, TN. This role supports industrial food & beverage, refining, power, and advanced biofuels markets. The position offers a hybrid work schedule, and relocation will be considered.
About the Role
Provide I&C engineering input in a dynamic multi-discipline environment, engineering state-of-the-art instrumentation and control systems, as well as retrofits and upgrades to existing systems.
Responsibilities
- Interface with clients, project management, procurement professionals, and other engineering disciplines regarding control systems.
- Develop I&C basis of design and scope of work documents.
- Identify design milestones and prepare labor-hour estimates for project proposals.
- Develop specifications and datasheets for instrumentation and control systems.
- Ensure technical accuracy and conformance to project design criteria of engineered work products.
- Ensure appropriate procedures, design guidelines, and design tools are utilized on projects.
- Develop innovative project concepts and solutions for advanced technology projects.
- Assist with client, customer, or regulatory contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments or meetings.
- Travel to domestic client project sites to support projects and assist with marketing Merrick’s capabilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution (Electrical or Controls Engineering preferred).
- U.S. Citizenship (required for client projects).
- Minimum of eight (8) years of I&C design experience in industrial processing, power generation, refining, utilities, or related industries.
- Experience directing I&C work, including:
- Instrument sizing and datasheets
- Specifications
- PLC/DCS architecture and configuration
- Instrumentation wiring and bus networks
- Wiring diagrams and panel layouts
- HMI configuration
- Loop diagrams and logic diagrams
- Control narratives
- Familiarity with industrial power document development, such as:
- Electrical one-line diagrams
- Power and control schematics
- Hazardous area classification
- Electrical equipment specifications
- Power and MCC panel layouts
- Proficient knowledge of industry codes and standards (API, ISA, NFPA/NEC, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA).
Qualifications
- Professional Engineering License (desired).
Pay
Salary range for this position is $105,000 to $135,000, depending on experience.
