Electrical Estimator I (34512)

This position works under minimal supervision on negotiated commercial projects within core markets, collaborating closely with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates by analyzing plans, specifications, and take-offs for the electrical department.
• Itemize subcontractor scopes and prepare bid packages.
• Complete accurate take-offs using Accubid and LiveCount.
• Prepare bids from 100% Design Development, Permit Drawings, or Issued for Construction Drawings.
• Overlay drawings for scope changes in Bluebeam or LiveCount.
• Analyze bids and propose value-engineering cost-saving ideas.
• Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to Junior Estimators while collaborating with all team members.
• Stay up-to-date and apply local and national codes.
• Review vendors' bills of materials and subcontractors' scope letters for accuracy.
• Prepare cost estimates in Accubid, recapitulating material, labor, indirect labor, subcontractors, general expenses, equipment rental, quoted material, bid breakdowns, and final pricing.
• Break down pricing in various formats from Accubid and provide alternate designs or cost innovation options.
• Prepare proposal letters, bid forms, and RFPs.
• Participate in client scope review meetings.
• Manage estimating processes and timelines to meet company objectives.
• Communicate with customers to define project scope, address deficiencies, negotiate pricing, and build relationships.
• Prepare and present completed estimating packages to company executives and senior management.
• Follow up on all bid projects and accurately forecast future awards/probabilities.
• Properly transfer awarded projects to the operations team and perform buyouts when necessary.
• Follow estimating procedures and guidelines.
• Develop and maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, and government requirements.
• Manage time effectively and communicate proposed information to customers to meet deadlines.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient processes and project completion.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or equivalent related experience.
• 3+ years of experience as a Commercial Construction Estimator, preferably within core market projects.
• Current driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Must meet attendance standards and comply with late/absence notification procedures.
• Must pass drug and background checks.
• Alignment with the company’s mission, vision, and values.
• Proficient in Accubid, LiveCount, Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, and Bluebeam.
• High attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness.
• Excellent time management, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
• Ability to identify and resolve complex issues.

• Flexible, adaptable, and able to work both in a team and independently.
• Ability to work flexible hours as needed.

Work Environment

The role may involve working inside or outside, with possible exposure to extreme temperatures, weather elements, restricted or confined spaces, slippery or uneven surfaces, and construction hazards such as ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, and catwalks. The position also operates in an office setting, using standard office equipment like computers, phones, and photocopiers.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of the jobsite in various weather conditions, including walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, standing, or stretching.
• Occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
• Move about regularly on your feet and sit for extended periods.
• Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
• May require travel and exposure to construction site dangers.
• Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with good vision (normal or corrected) and hearing (normal or corrected).
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest) as needed.
• Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, with overtime as required, including night shifts and on-call duties for delays, emergencies, or bad weather.
• Must work professionally in the presence of customers and their representatives with minimal disruption.
