Electrical Equipment Repairer.

About the Role

Perform a variety of direct-level support electrical repair functions at field or shop locations. Troubleshoot electrical systems and related equipment, complete repairs on complex electrical systems, and interpret technical specifications, schematics, blueprints, and engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot malfunctions at the lowest circuit element on single or multiple layer printed circuit boards using test equipment.
• Provide technical advice and assistance to employees performing diagnostics on simple components.
• Work in established impact areas to repair, overhaul, or modify targets and accessories.
• Frequently lift items over 50 pounds.
• Work nonstandard duty hours, including shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime (both scheduled and unscheduled).
• Subject to 24/7 recall for emergencies or to support range operations.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, including a completed background investigation.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Required to wear and/or use protective clothing and equipment in accordance with health and safety regulations and standard operating procedures.
• Must complete and pass a Pre-Employment physical examination.
• Eligibility is limited to specific employment authority categories (e.g., current Department of Army or DoD civilian employees, veterans, military spouses, etc.).

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to perform common electrical repair functions without more than normal supervision.
• Experience testing equipment to troubleshoot and repair malfunctions at the lowest circuit element.
• Experience with troubleshooting closed-system WiFi networks.
• Ability to use and maintain hand tools for electrical work.
• Knowledge of electrical equipment, technical practices, and electrical/electronic theory and instruments.
• Proficiency in reading electrical drawings and troubleshooting electrical systems.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, or community groups).

Physical Effort & Working Conditions

• Frequently required to stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, and work in tiring or uncomfortable positions.
• Lift and carry items up to 50 pounds unassisted; heavier items may require assistance or equipment.
• Work in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas, but also exposed to outdoor conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, dust).
• Subject to cuts, burns, chemical irritations, strains, electrical shock, and abrasions while handling equipment.
• Exposed to dirt, solvents, fuel, fumes, oil, grease, and unpleasant working conditions.
• Work around ammunition, explosives, live fire ranges, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies, and rough terrain.
• Must follow prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment (e.g., ear plugs, face shields, gloves, hard hats, safety shoes).

• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

• This position requires a 2-year trial period to evaluate fitness and whether continued employment advances the public interest.
• Direct deposit of pay is required.
• This is a Material Maintenance Management Career Field position.
• Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
• Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to regulations.
• Recruitment, relocation incentives, and student loan repayment may be authorized.
• Term appointment not to exceed 6 years, with potential extensions up to 8 years (or beyond with DoD approval).
• Current permanent Federal employees may be converted to a Term appointment without statutory return rights.
