About the role

This entry-level position provides hands-on design, analysis, and project execution experience with mentorship, training, and growth opportunities from day one. You will work closely with experienced engineers and consultants to assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of electrical systems in buildings. The role supports education and government projects, advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and analysis of electrical systems, using engineering software and tools to develop designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Support the engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of electrical systems in buildings
  • Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively
  • Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication
  • Work as part of a project team to support the execution of consulting projects
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, and documenting design decisions and client instructions while monitoring design progress
  • Analyze low to medium complexity engineering tasks and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions
  • Work within the project's monetary budget and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations
  • Participate in IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts
  • Prioritize safety by identifying and mitigating potential safety risks associated with electrical systems

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent

Skills

  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Strong technical and analytical skills including knowledge of principles relating to circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems design for buildings
  • Knowledge of industry standard engineering software and tools, including lighting photometric calculation software such as AGI, Elum Tools, Visual Lighting, or other; energy compliance software such as ComCheck; and familiar use of Adobe or Bluebeam Revu
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges
  • Basic knowledge in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 5% with occasional overnight stays

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) License

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull
  • Limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises

The team focuses on higher education and public-sector work, providing MEP and fire protection support for campus renovations, labs, data-center-type spaces, athletic facilities, and utility or infrastructure upgrades. Electrical often serves as the lead discipline, though many projects include full mechanical-electrical-plumbing scope. The team also supports healthcare, libraries, generators, controls, accessibility, and study-heavy infrastructure work, particularly in public and campus settings.

Pay

State of New York Salary Range: $76,000 – $80,000 per year. The range represents the base pay IMEG reasonably expects to pay for this position in the specified work location at the time of posting. Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
