Electrical Engineering Manager

About the Role
The City of Ames seeks an Electrical Engineering Manager to support the Electric Services Department. This role supervises the Electrical Engineering Division, plans and designs electrical transmission and distribution facilities, and manages related services.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates, designs, and directs electrical transmission and distribution projects.
- Prepares specifications for major materials and construction contracts; requests quotations and evaluates competitive bids.
- Designs and recommends improvements to interconnections with other utilities, including transmission ties, substations, and metering.
- Advises on and coordinates service for industrial, commercial, and residential customers.
- Prepares and administers the Electrical Engineering Division budget and the distribution extensions and improvements budget.
- Supervises and assigns work to division personnel; operates light vehicle.
- Serves as project lead, manages transmission/distribution engineering and construction contractors.

Pay
Annual salary range: $112,477.46 – $162,658.70. The median salary for this position is $137,568.
The City’s compensation philosophy reflects growth potential as employees gain experience and expertise. The minimum pay aligns with qualifications meeting the position’s minimum requirements, while the median reflects meeting all expectations without extensive training. Candidates with advanced education, experience, or skills may be considered for a salary closer to the median.
