About the role

Summer 2027 Internship opportunity for an Electrical Engineering Intern in Germantown, MD. Over 10-12 weeks, you’ll support the engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of electrical systems in buildings through real project work alongside experienced engineers and consultants. This paid, mentored internship includes assisting with project documentation, multidisciplinary coordination, and periodic job site observations while working within project budgets and client expectations. You’ll contribute to projects serving government/municipal and science & technology markets, advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

U.S. citizenship is required due to federal contract work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with electrical design tasks for projects in accordance with code and IMEG standards.
  • Assist with researching commercially available equipment and related resources.
  • Assist with maintaining client relations, project design notebooks, and permanent record documentation.
  • Assist with coordinating design and schedule needs with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment supplier teams.
  • Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring design progress.
  • Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check.
  • Assist with preparing and issuing addendum information.
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and perform other services required by the contract services agreement.

Requirements

  • Completed at least 2 years toward a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Strong interest in design consulting.
  • Previous exposure to CAD and/or BIM software.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry.

Pay

State of Maryland Pay Range: $22.00–$24.00 per hour. The range represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
