Electrical Engineer - Renewable Energy

About the role

Kimley-Horn's Atlanta, Georgia (GA) office is seeking an Electrical Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join their Renewable Energy team. This is an on-site position.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of electrical systems including renewable generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, building electrical, and battery storage projects.
• Perform design on a wide variety of projects, such as photometrics and lighting, power distribution, EV charging, and more.
• Develop design documents and reports, including electrical layouts, equipment schematics and block diagrams, electrical system calculations, and one-line diagrams.
• Collaborate daily with multi-disciplinary teams across Kimley-Horn offices.
• Prepare project specifications, electrical construction cost estimates, and proposals to support the growth of electrical engineering service areas locally and nationally.
• Mentor, train, and grow a team to expand the Renewable Energy practice.
• Develop reports and design documents for electrical design plans, EV charging infrastructure, equipment selection, solar system sizing, and power analyses.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in an Electrical Engineering role.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
• Understanding of the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, IEEE, and ANSI Standards.
• Willingness to travel for site visits and client meetings as needed.
• Ability to work in a team, collaborating with and mentoring junior staff.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in utility-scale PV, MEP, HVAC, wind generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, microgrid, substation, or data center designs.
• Engineering project management experience.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Experience in power system analysis using SKM, ETAP, or equivalent.
• Experience in transient studies using PSCAD, EMTP-RV, or equivalent.
• Experience in lighting designs and photometrics using AGI32 or equivalent.
• Comfortable programming in Python or MATLAB.
