About the role

The Electrical Power Engineer candidate should have experience within the utility scale power and renewable energy industry and be capable of supporting power generation design projects including leading multiple design and engineering project or administration tasks simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Support power generation design projects including leading multiple design and engineering project or administration tasks simultaneously.
  • Lead power generation and distribution, renewable energy, protection and motor control design, power system studies, construction and equipment specification development, and balance of plant designs such as raceway, lighting, and grounding systems.
  • Have specific experience in power generation and distribution, renewable energy, protection and control design, system grounding, physical design, and experience with other activities such as lighting and grounding design, including instrumentation and control and life safety systems.
  • Have interest or experience in the exciting market of renewables and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
  • Have interest in mentoring young engineers, client relationship development, and supporting marketing activities, such as proposal technical writing, fee builds, and development of work breakdown structure.
  • Have a level of design and engineer of record work experience with power plant systems.

Requirements

  • A level of design and engineer of record work experience with power plant systems.
  • Preferred qualifications include protection and control design experience including setting calculations and electronic files development, instrumentation and controls experience particularly with DCS and PLC systems, field experience, including startup and commissioning, experience in renewable energy (PV, BESS, etc.) and DER or “microgrid” projects, previous experience with an engineering power consulting firm, willingness to grow into a team lead or section manager role, knowledge and experience with three-phase electrical power, protection and control design, system grounding, physical design, and experience with other activities such as lighting and grounding design, including instrumentation and control and life safety systems, computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, CYMCAD, PSCAD, etc.), conduct work sessions and project meetings, and/or participate in reviews at the project site in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines, and provide construction contract administration as needed, develop project schematic design and contract document phase of a project including reviewing project documents, writing project specification and coordinating areas of conflict with other disciplines, coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, requests for information (RFIs), change orders (COs), job safety analysis (JSAs) and take responsibility to incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents, conduct QA/QC on the work of other Engineers, Project Coordinators or Designers, an attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit).
