Electrical Engineer - Power Distribution & Analysis
About the role
HED is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in power distribution systems and power system analysis, particularly for medium voltage, low voltage, and DC systems.
Responsibilities
- Provide voltage drop, short circuit, selective coordination, and arc flash analysis for large, complex projects
- Proficiently use SKM software for analysis
- Conduct harmonic analysis, power quality analysis, and grounding system calculations as needed
- Manage analytical portions of electrical scopes, oversee QAQC efforts, mentor team members, and represent the discipline in client-facing settings
- Support the design and documentation of complex electrical systems with power system analysis
- Perform key electrical engineering calculations and gather and enter data into analysis software platforms
- Coordinate analysis results into system design and resolve system conflicts during interdisciplinary coordination
- Serve as the primary electrical technical contact across internal and external project teams
- Support preparation of technical specifications and coordinate detailed responses with the broader team
- Support team review and approval of electrical submittals, RFIs, and substitutions; generate professional-level electrical field reports
- Participate in scoping and resource planning for electrical analysis scope in project planning and project proposals
- Contribute to internal and external project meetings by presenting electrical system concepts, decisions, and trade-offs
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
- P.E. licensure required
- 10+ years in the AEC industry preferred
- Understanding of estimating and managing project manhour efforts for analytical scope
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- SKM experience required
- Experience with computers, specifically for word processing, spreadsheet use/creation, and email
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, flexible, and curious personality
- Ability to work well with others under deadlines
- Delegation to junior or external third-party staff
Qualifications
Physical requirements include prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Effective communication in writing and verbally via phone, video conferencing, and in-person is necessary. Visual acuity is also important for performing responsibilities.
