HED · Los Angeles Metropolitan Area · 3 wk ago
HybridEngineeringFull-time

HED is looking to add an experienced team member to our group of talented Electrical Engineers. The candidate should have broad electrical engineering expertise, with a focus on power distribution systems and power system analysis for medium voltage, low voltage, and DC systems.

About the role

This role manages analytical portions of electrical scopes, related QAQC efforts, mentors team members, and represents the discipline in client-facing settings. Individuals in this position are expected to independently deliver technical content to support early designs, confirm equipment specifications and design for construction documentation, as well as prepare final analysis reports and device settings during construction. Additionally, this position identifies and resolves system-level challenges and contributes meaningfully to project strategy, team development, and firmwide standards.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and documentation of complex electrical systems with power system analysis.
  • Perform key electrical engineering calculations and curate data gathering; oversee data entry into analysis software platforms for systems analysis and coordinate integration of analysis results into system design.
  • Resolve system conflicts during interdisciplinary coordination by collaborating with owners and other internal/external team members.
  • Serve as the primary electrical technical contact across internal and external project teams.
  • Support preparation of technical specifications.
  • Support team review and approval of electrical submittals, RFIs, and substitutions; coordinate detailed responses with the broader team.
  • Perform site visits, field verification, and punch walks with high autonomy; generate professional-level electrical field reports.
  • Support electrical design leadership from early concept through construction administration; inform system technical specifications, equipment performance minimum ratings, and support documentation accuracy.
  • Perform QAQC reviews for electrical deliverables and assist in the development of project-specific electrical quality plans.
  • Mentor junior engineers and electrical designers through delegation, technical feedback, and one-on-one coaching of power system analysis.
  • Participate in scoping and resource planning for electrical analysis scope in project planning and project proposals.
  • Contribute to internal and external project meetings by presenting electrical system concepts, decisions, and trade-offs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent required.
  • P.E. licensure required.
  • 10+ years in the AEC Industry preferred.
  • Understanding of estimating and managing project man-hour efforts for analytical scope, including resource allocation, schedule, deliverable commitments, and fee.
  • Written and verbal communication skills commensurate with the position.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with SKM software required.
  • Experience with computers, specifically for word processing, spreadsheet use/creation, and email.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, flexible, and curious personality.
  • Ability to work well with others under deadline situations.
  • Delegation to junior or external third-party staff.

Skills

  • Power distribution system and power system analysis for medium voltage, low voltage, and DC systems.
  • Voltage drop, short circuit, selective coordination, and arc flash analysis for large, complex projects.
  • Familiarity with harmonic analysis, power quality analysis, and grounding system calculation methods is a plus.
