Electrical Engineer - Networks, Integration, & Automation (Vancouver, WA)
Our Transmission & Distribution global practice is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support our Vancouver, Washington office. About the Role
As an Engineer at Burns & McDonnell, you will be part of our nationwide team, receiving on-the-job training, technical mentorship, and personal development while supporting projects in the following areas:
- Grid Modernization: Work with electric utilities to expand capabilities using the latest technologies for remote monitoring, automation, and control to improve operational efficiency.
- Networks: Help clients build redundant, long-haul, high-capacity data networks for both business/IT and operational needs.
- Renewable Energy: Connect renewable energy assets (offshore wind, solar PV, hydroelectric, battery storage) to grid infrastructure, providing critical communications for utilities and system operators.
- Rural Broadband: Support high-speed internet access projects for rural communities to advance educational and economic opportunities.
- Private LTE: Develop private carrier-grade networks for electric utilities to enhance grid monitoring and management.
- Fiber: Expand fiber optic infrastructure for utilities, enabling high-bandwidth data transmission from core networks to customer homes.
- Electric Vehicles: Collaborate with industry leaders and utilities to support cost-effective transportation electrification.
Responsibilities
- Execute electrical design of projects from conceptual phase through completion.
- Research, design, and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
- Apply knowledge of electrical engineering concepts, practices, codes, and procedures.
- Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
- Create project deliverables, including device configurations, network architecture diagrams, and specifications.
- Utilize tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), 3D scanning, and model-based design.
- Modify and review construction drawings and client presentations for electric utility projects.
- Develop relationships with key client contacts through meetings and correspondence.
- Perform design quality reviews.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
- Alternatively, a Bachelor of Science in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Master of Science in Electrical Engineering may substitute for 1 year of experience.
- 3+ years of electrical telecommunications engineering experience, consulting preferred.
- Successful completion (passing) of FE or EIT exam preferred.
- Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
- Proficiency in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Capability to apply intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments.
- Ability to devise new approaches to problems encountered.
Pay
$110,000.00–165,000.00 yearly. The expected compensation range is based on individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package includes a base salary and eligibility for a discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.

Schedule
Full-time position with up to 25% travel required.
