Electrical Engineer Intern/Co-op Spring 2027 (multiple locations)

About the role

This co-op position provides a unique opportunity for hands-on training in electrical design. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work well with a team and independently. Our engineers will teach you how to design and implement electrical systems/infrastructure as well as energy-efficient measures in our building projects. This is a great opportunity to work on some of the most challenging and complex MEP projects and become an important part of our design team.

This is a full-time (40 hrs./week), onsite position starting January 2027 through Spring 2027. Dates are flexible with the school calendar. The position offers a competitive hourly pay rate and is eligible for overtime pay. Our hope is that co-op students hired will complete multiple rotations with CMTA, with possible consideration for full-time employment upon graduation.

Responsibilities

• Learn and implement electrical system basics such as power, power distribution, lighting & controls, and fire alarm systems for new construction and renovation design projects while supporting our engineering team.
• Produce detailed layout and equipment details of electrical systems of buildings.
• Produce one-line diagrams/schematics.
• Assist the design team in assembling organized sets of drawings.
• May assist in data collection and/or field verification.
• Work in conjunction with designers and engineers to help develop all aspects of a project.
• Travel locally for job site inspections, field work, etc.

Requirements

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering, preferably a sophomore (2nd year) or a junior (3rd year).
• Strong interest in Building Systems Electrical Engineering.
• AutoCAD and Revit experience preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to work both independently and with a team.
• Ability to work full-time throughout the co-op term.
• Must have current work authorization in the U.S.; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
