About the Role

The Building Electrical Group is responsible for all building electrical systems including lighting, fire protection, and low voltage for design-build industrial projects. We design and build food and beverage production facilities. The team designs electrical systems, calculates power loads, determines and selects equipment sizes, and vets vendors, suppliers, and sub-contractors. This role involves technical responsibility for scoping, performing, and delivering multiple concurrent project assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems for building power, including normal, emergency, and standby power distribution systems for 208v, 480v, and medium voltage in industrial facilities.
  • Document all necessary calculations for design, such as short circuit, selective coordination, arc flash, generator sizing, steady state and transient voltage drops, load calculations, conductor sizing, and raceway fills.
  • Maintain project document organization and manage time to meet commitments.
  • Understand Ohms Law, AC/DC, electric and magnetic fields, power system theory (3-phase vector math, power factor, symmetrical components), capacitors, inductors, and resonance.
  • Design lighting for food processing spaces, including lighting calculations for emergency and inspection lighting, and coordinate fixture placement/mounting with other trades.
  • Design fire alarm systems per NFPA 72, 101, and local building code.
  • Design low voltage systems such as LAN, phones, PA, Wi-Fi, access control, and cameras.
  • Produce bid documents consisting of layout drawings, one-line diagrams, riser diagrams, schedules, details, and specifications.
  • Use CAD to add 2D devices to Xrefs.
  • Procure long lead light fixtures and power distribution equipment such as switchgears, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, MCCs, generators, variable speed drives, and UPSs.
  • Handle transformer configurations and estimate weights of main trays/trapeze and equipment needing support.
  • Assist in managing the electrical bid process for clients, observe construction, and assist with startup.
  • Participate in project planning and feasibility studies.
  • Actively support department-wide standard development, updates, and maintenance.
  • Research electrical building/power materials and best practices.
  • Support talent growth within the organization.

Requirements

  • Sophomore, Junior, or Senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Access).
  • Familiarity with three-phase power, the National Electric Code, wireless radio systems, fire and security systems, or fiber/LAN cabling is a plus.
  • Familiarity with designing lighting, fire alarm systems, and low voltage systems for building spaces, including lighting calculations and coordinating fixture placement with trades.
  • GPA: 3.0 or above.
  • Up to 25% travel to customer project sites for fieldwork, review, audit, and meetings.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar software.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Benefits
