Electrical Engineer II
About the role
This position is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, focused on the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. As an Electrical Engineer II on a small, high‑impact team, you will deliver end‑to‑end electrical engineering solutions across integration, installation, refurbishment, maintenance, and operations. You will work under general direction, determine and develop approaches to moderately complex problems, partner with diverse technical and operational stakeholders, and apply engineering judgment to support successful integration efforts.
Responsibilities
- Develop, analyze, and implement electrical engineering solutions spanning instrumentation, controls, and integration challenges.
- Serve as a technical contributor on a small team, independently determining technical approaches and adapting to shifting priorities.
- Interface with operations, manufacturing, test, and external partners to gather requirements, communicate technical direction, and align on solutions.
- Provide engineering input across supporting disciplines, including safety and failure‑effects analysis, systems engineering, configuration management, quality, work‑instruction authoring, work scheduling, technical design/drafting, and process development.
- Perform troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis on electrical and electromechanical systems, recommending corrective actions.
- Support preventative and corrective maintenance of electrical systems, including procurement of critical spare parts.
- Configure and support basic networking infrastructures.
- Apply and support Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), de‑energization, and other safe‑work practices in design and execution.
- Design and evaluate electrical systems for installation in hazardous (classified) locations.
- Leverage AI‑enabled engineering tools to improve analysis, documentation, and design efficiency.
- Document designs, analyses, and decisions to support traceability and configuration control.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 3+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
- Experience with low‑voltage and medium‑voltage systems, including interpreting analyses and studies.
- Experience with instrumentation and controls hardware such as Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Hands‑on experience with preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and root‑cause analysis.
- Familiarity with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and de‑energization procedures.
- Demonstrated experience working in dynamic, high‑energy operational environments.
- Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, dynamic work environment.
- Proficiency using AI tools in an engineering workflow.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience designing for hazardous (classified) areas (e.g., Class I, Division 2).
- Experience with failure investigations.
- Hands‑on experience supporting systems engineering, configuration management, or quality processes.
- Experience authoring work instructions and developing processes.
- Working knowledge of basic networking systems.
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70E/arc flash) and PLC/controls platforms.
