Electrical Engineer (HYBRID - Arlington, VA)

About the role

As an Electrical Engineer on our government‑focused team, you will primarily perform code enforcement reviews and inspections. You will interpret and enforce applicable construction codes, standards, and regulations for government construction projects. The role emphasizes power generators, uninterruptible power supplies, life‑safety/mission‑critical power distribution, electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, and other electrical equipment and systems.

Citizenship / Clearance Requirements

Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance based on customer and project requirements.

Schedule

Hybrid schedule with regular in‑office attendance at our Arlington, VA headquarters, work‑from‑home days, and regular travel to client sites in the D.C. Metro Area. Up to 10 % travel to client sites outside the region may be required.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform code enforcement design and construction reviews to evaluate whether construction documents meet applicable electrical codes and standards.
• Conduct surveys of existing areas and facilities, design reviews, code‑compliance inspections, witness required testing, assist in code development and implementation, and execute small systems designs.
• Carry out electrical code compliance inspections for all projects with issued permits to ensure conformance with approved designs and applicable codes/standards.
• Evaluate equipment and controls technology selections and strategies.
• Assess and comment on equipment submittals, test reports, and manuals.
• Inspect and evaluate electrical designs and installations for code and standard compliance.
• Act as a subject‑matter expert on all aspects of electrical design, construction, and operation for power generators and related infrastructure.
• Provide quality assurance through audits and inspections to ensure compliance with client criteria, codes, standards, and policies.
• Interpret, explain, and enforce provisions of construction codes, standards, and regulations to clients, contractors, architects, and engineers.
• Prepare reports on code enforcement activities, ensuring transparency and accountability.
• Maintain accurate records of code violations and actions taken.
• Coordinate with various stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient project execution.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an ABET‑accredited college or university in electrical engineering or a related field.
• At least 10 years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience.
• At least 10 years of experience conducting reviews of design and construction documentation for electrical systems.
• At least 10 years of experience with NFPA 70 (National Electric Code).
• At least 5 years of experience with the Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ICC Certified Electrical Plans Examiner.
• Detailed knowledge of federal building codes, construction practices, and safety standards.
• Proficiency with construction project management software, mobile devices, and the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, Project, PowerPoint).
• In‑depth knowledge of federal building codes/standards/guidelines (ANSI, ICC, IEEE, NEMA, NESC, NFPA/NEC, UFC/UFGS, UL).
• Proven record of client satisfaction in mission‑critical facilities and a passion for analyzing, troubleshooting, optimizing, and upgrading integrated systems in aging facilities and campus environments.
• Valid state‑issued driver’s license and ability to travel to various work sites.

Physical Considerations

• Ability to walk construction sites with uneven surfaces, carry up to 25 lb., climb stairs and ladders, and work both indoors and outdoors in severe weather, confined spaces, and dust‑generating environments.
• Maintain spatial awareness and comply with safety standards while working near mechanical and electrical building equipment and systems.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) where required.

Pay

Annual salary, dependent upon qualifications and experience: $120,000 – $170,000.
