Electrical Engineer – Entry Level – 2+ Years (Hybrid)

Barr is seeking an electrical engineer to join our Minneapolis office in a hybrid role, supporting the Engineering and Design business unit. You will work with multidisciplinary project teams, providing electrical engineering and technical expertise to integrate process, mechanical, and control requirements into comprehensive electrical systems.

About the role

This position is based in Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office and offers a hybrid work arrangement, splitting time between the office and a home office. Domestic travel for fieldwork is expected to be up to 10–15 percent. The role may require working in rough terrain typical of construction sites or handling field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided, and applicants may need to participate in client-requested drug screening. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Complete calculations and analyses, develop design details, and prepare drawings, specifications, sketches, and cost estimates.
• Select equipment and write proposals and reports.
• Communicate effectively with clients and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to align technical work with project objectives.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and foster productive working relationships.
• Manage project organization and deadlines, adapting schedules as needed to meet client needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field, with academic coursework focused on power or control systems.
• 2+ years of experience in a design capacity on projects related to power, controls, or industrial systems at a consulting engineering or industrial organization.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain it within one year.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Excel, and Word.
• Possession of a current, valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Allen Bradley and Schneider Electric PLC configuration and programming.
• Experience with protective device coordination, short-circuit studies, and arc flash analyses using SKM and ETAP software.
• Experience in power distribution design, motor control, lighting, grounding, conduit plans, sizing of power cable, and electrical equipment.
• Understanding of short-circuit analysis and familiarity with power studies using software like SKM or ETAP.
• Experience in the power, fuels, mining, and/or manufacturing industries.

Pay

Anticipated annual salary range: $76,000–$92,000, varying based on experience, education, skill level, and other factors. This exempt (salaried) position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance.
