Electrical Engineer
SABG is hiring an Electrical Engineer to support Engineering Support Services for the 50th Civil Engineer Squadron (50 CES) at Schriever Space Force Base (SSFB), Colorado Springs, Colorado. This position is performed on-site at Schriever Space Force Base and is contingent upon contract award.
About the role
Provide non-personal electrical engineering support for the full lifecycle of facilities and infrastructure projects on a military installation, including expert-level design, project planning, and construction management to support critical military missions and real property assets.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive planning and design work for multi-phase new construction, renovation, and improvement projects for real property facilities and complex utility systems, developing and reviewing design calculations, cost estimates, technical drawings, specifications, and Statements of Work.
- Manage and maintain surveillance over new construction, renovation, and improvement projects to ensure construction contractor compliance with contracted specifications, schedules, codes, and safety requirements, including preconstruction site surveys and change order reviews.
- Plan, program, budget, and execute engineering projects by assessing validity, feasibility, and economic and environmental impacts using cost-estimating tools, competing for funding through Air Force corporate processes (e.g., AFCAMP), and validating requirements using Sustainment Management Systems (SMS).
- Serve as a primary technical consultant and project coordinator, liaising with engineers, architects, planners, contracting officers, tenant organizations, and external construction agents such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and NAVFAC.
- Collect, evaluate, and analyze technical data affecting facilities and infrastructure using advanced computer software such as CAD, GIS, and modeling programs, conducting field surveys and quantitative analysis to support project development and design.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures, strictly interpreting and applying federal, state, and local codes throughout programming, design, and construction phases.
- Provide weekly reviews and recommendations on project submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs) for Government approval.
- Conduct monthly project statement of work and design reviews, and generate Statement of Work (SOW) packages.
- Participate in field investigations as directed by the Government's authorized representative.
- Provide bi-weekly recommendation reports to project stakeholders addressing requirements and constructability.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited program and at least 5 years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
- Professional knowledge of electrical engineering concepts, principles, and practices, with strong familiarity with architectural, mechanical, and structural disciplines.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable engineering and construction standards, contracting regulations, health and safety requirements, and environmental laws.
- Proficiency in automated data processing, program planning, and budgeting cycles, including financial control systems.
- High degree of skill in aesthetic and functional design techniques, drafting, and preparing complete project documentation.
- Ability to plan, conduct, and record detailed site and facility surveys and inspections, and apply results to recommend timely and economical engineering solutions.
- Capable of passing a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
Skills
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and standard office equipment.
- Proficiency with CAD, GIS, and other Government-approved engineering modeling programs.
- Strong problem-solving skills: identifies and resolves problems promptly, gathers and analyzes information skillfully, and develops alternative solutions.
- Excellent written communication: writes clearly and informatively, edits work for spelling and grammar, and presents numerical data effectively.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret governmental regulations, electrical engineering standards, and construction specifications.
- Ability to write technical reports, design calculations, Statements of Work, and business correspondence.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, electrical load and circuit calculations) to design and cost-estimating situations.
- Strong reasoning ability: defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions to make sound business decisions.

Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit, talk, hear, write, and type on a computer.
- Frequently required to walk, stand, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Periodically required to walk active construction sites and may need to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to inspect work in progress.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to visually detect defects, hazards, and non-conforming conditions.
Work Environment
- Job duties are performed in a combination of an office environment and outdoor construction and facility environments on a military installation.
- When on active construction sites, may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, elevated noise levels, dust, and varying outdoor weather conditions.
- Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required (e.g., hard hat, safety vest, safety footwear).
- Noise level in the office environment is usually low to moderate; on active construction sites, it can be moderate to high.
Pay
Salary range: $100,000–$130,000. Compensation is determined based on role requirements, education, certifications, skills, experience, geographic location, and market conditions.
