Position Summary
Reporting to the SHADOWLAB Senior Principal Systems Engineer, Electromagnetic and Cyber Group (EM&C), and supporting Metrea’s overall engineering efforts, the Embedded Software Engineer will join our busy team specializing in state-of-the-art military communications and signals intelligence products. All our teams operate in a small agile environment which allows our engineering personnel to work independently on a wide variety of systems and products. Our mix of product development and R&D also provides our engineering staff with a constant flow of new and interesting projects.
What You'll Do
- Signal Analysis & Processing - Develop and implement algorithms for detecting, classifying, demodulating, and decoding signals of interest using advanced digital signal processing (DSP) techniques
- R&F & Wireless Communications - Analyze and process signals across various radio frequencies (RF), including designing and optimizing software-defined radios (SDRs) and other SIGINT collection systems
- Algorithm Development & Optimization - Design, simulate, and optimize signal processing algorithms using tools like MATLAB, Python, or C++ to enhance detection and extraction of intelligence from raw signals
- Electronic Warfare & Countermeasures - Develop and evaluate techniques for jamming, spoofing, or countering adversary signals while ensuring operational security and mission effectiveness
- System Integration & Testing - Collaborate with hardware and software teams to integrate signal processing solutions into larger systems, conduct performance testing, and validate functionality under real-world conditions
- Data Analysis & Intelligence Extraction - Process and interpret large volumes of signals data to identify patterns, anomalies, and actionable intelligence, supporting decision-making for military, defense, or intelligence operations
What You Bring
- Digital Signal Processing and SDR Development - Experience applying DSP fundamentals such as filtering, FFTs, modulation recognition, demodulation, decoding, spectral analysis, and signal detection using SDR platforms and tools such as GNU Radio, MATLAB, Python, C++, or similar environments
- R&F Systems and Wireless Communications Knowledge - Working knowledge of RF propagation, antennas, receivers, transmitters, modulation schemes, link budgets, spectrum analysis, and common wireless communication protocols used in military, commercial, or intelligence-related environments
- Algorithm Development, Testing, and Data Analysis - Experience developing, optimizing, and validating signal-processing algorithms; analyzing large datasets; identifying patterns or anomalies in RF data; and supporting system integration, field testing, and performance evaluation of SIGINT, EW, or RF sensing systems
