About the role

The Electrical Engineer designs and integrates medium-voltage power distribution systems for modular solutions serving mission-critical data centers and industrial markets (oil & gas, renewables/BESS, mining, and utility).

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop power system architectures (one-lines, three-lines as required) for MV (5kV–35kV class) and LV modular systems.
  • Size and specify major equipment in accordance with applicable standards, including: UL 1558, UL 891, UL 857, UL 67 IEEE C37 series (e.g., C37.20.2, C37.20.7).
  • Select equipment interrupting ratings and short-circuit withstand ratings consistent with calculated available fault current.
  • Define grounding and bonding strategies in accordance with NEC and IEEE 80 / IEEE 3007, including skid/baseframe bonding and site grounding interfaces.
  • Specify and integrate transfer switch systems (UL 1008) and UPS systems (UL 1778), including maintenance bypass schemes and redundancy topologies (N, N+1, 2N).
  • Coordinate battery and energy storage integration (UL 1973, UL 9540), including DC distribution, disconnecting means, monitoring, and safety interfaces.
  • Define protection philosophies and relay schemes consistent with IEEE C37 standards; coordinate settings development and review.
  • Develop control and interlock philosophies (EPO, permissives, trip schemes, alarms) in coordination with controls and protection engineers.
  • Develop schematics for auxiliary AC/DC power, lighting, receptacles, panelboards, and control panels (UL 508A where applicable).
  • Cook up electrical interfaces with HVAC and fire protection systems (NFPA 72, NFPA 855 as applicable).
  • Support UL/NRTL listing efforts and major customer compliance programs.
  • Produce and/or review electrical drawing packages (one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, interconnects, cable schedules).
  • Develop and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) for designed products, ensuring alignment with drawings, specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Collaborate with procurement, project management, and production teams to support material readiness, project execution, and manufacturing success.
  • Support FAI/FAT, commissioning, and field troubleshooting.
  • Performs other job-related duties as necessary or assigned.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in industrial, utility, or mission-critical power distribution design.
  • Demonstrated experience with MV equipment (5kV–35kV class), including switchgear and protective relaying.
  • Working knowledge of: NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 70E, IEEE C37 series, IEEE 1584, UL switchgear/switchboard standards.
  • Experience performing or leading short circuit, coordination, and arc-flash studies.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and/or SolidWorks Electrical.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with arc-resistant MV switchgear (IEEE C37.20.7).
  • Experience with data center power architectures (2N, distributed redundant, catchers).
  • Familiarity with NFPA 110 emergency power systems.
  • Experience with UL 9540 energy storage systems integration.
  • Utility interconnection coordination experience.
  • PE license or EIT with path to licensure.
