About the role

This entry-level Electrical Engineer role offers the opportunity to perform foundational engineering assignments under close supervision while building practical experience in electrical distribution system design. You will apply basic engineering principles to prescribed techniques and procedures, contribute to project deliverables, support quality and continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborate with project teams in a professional, client-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine aspects of electrical engineering assignments under close supervision, applying basic engineering principles to prescribed techniques and procedures.
  • Contribute to the preparation of less complex engineering deliverables, including drawings, reports, specifications, and studies of limited scope.
  • Conduct routine research and develop recommendations for equipment and materials selection in support of electrical distribution projects.
  • Collect, assimilate, and manage data required for engineering work, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles used in similar engineering analyses.
  • Develop familiarity with departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and internal policies and procedures, and apply them to project work.
  • Understand and comply with the quality program, supporting continuous improvement and change management efforts.
  • Adhere to project budget, schedule, and quality requirements while executing assigned tasks.
  • Share information with team members as requested and coordinate with others when directed by supervisors or project leadership.
  • Focus on the needs of internal clients, such as project team leadership, while developing a basic understanding of external client interests and drivers.
  • Support business development or pursuit activities as needed, including providing technical input or documentation.
  • Perform initial technical screens and review application packages for completeness and accuracy related to distribution system projects.
  • Compare submitted documentation against utility databases to verify information and ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Develop clear written communications independently and facilitate coordination with team members and clients.
  • Work cooperatively in a team environment, contributing to a collaborative and professional project culture.
  • Travel up to 25% as required to support project and job functions.

Requirements

  • Foundational knowledge of electrical engineering principles and their application to engineering assignments.
  • 0–1 years of experience in electrical distribution, with an understanding of basic distribution system design concepts.
  • Ability to perform initial technical screens and review application packages for completeness and accuracy.
  • Ability to compare submitted documentation against utility databases and identify discrepancies.
  • Ability to independently develop clear and professional written communications.
  • Ability to facilitate coordination with team members and clients in a project setting.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment and follow direction from supervisors and project leadership.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software products.
  • Experience using AutoCAD for electrical design and drawing preparation.
  • Basic skills in electrical engineering and electrical design using industry-standard tools such as AutoCAD.

Work Environment

This role operates within a professional engineering office environment focused on electrical distribution projects. You will use tools such as Microsoft Office and AutoCAD on a regular basis to support design and documentation. The position requires residing within approximately 50 miles of an office location in areas such as Flint, Michigan or Cary, with travel up to 25% to project sites or other offices as needed. Work is primarily performed in an office setting with standard business hours, collaborating closely with project team leadership and engineering colleagues in a structured, process-driven environment that emphasizes quality, safety, and adherence to engineering standards.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $31.25/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

Schedule

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cary, NC. The role is fully onsite with standard business hours.
