Electrical Engineer
Actalent is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to design, develop, and evaluate electronic components, integrated circuits, and hardware systems for small unmanned aircraft platforms and related applications.
About the role
This position operates in a dynamic engineering environment focused on developing electronic systems for small unmanned aircraft vehicles. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, using tools such as Altium Designer and specialized engineering software to design, analyze, and validate complex electronic systems. The role involves a mix of office-based design work, hands-on laboratory testing, and occasional field work to support flight test operations, with up to 30% travel required.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, modify, and evaluate electronic parts, components, integrated circuitry, and hardware systems for electronic equipment and electrical engineering applications.
- Select components and equipment based on thorough analysis of specifications, performance requirements, and reliability considerations.
- Determine design approaches, parameters, and methodologies for electronic systems and subsystems.
- Conduct general engineering and design of electronic systems for small unmanned aircraft vehicles in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Perform schematic capture and printed circuit board (PCB) layout using Altium Designer to create manufacturable and reliable designs.
- Apply expertise in areas such as Radio Frequency (RF), embedded control, and FPGA design to develop and integrate system solutions.
- Design and support power electronics systems, including motor control and battery technologies such as lead acid, nickel metal hydride, and lithium-ion.
- Troubleshoot complex electronic and electromechanical systems, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Integrate and validate systems that utilize common industry communication protocols including LVDS, I2C, HDMI, UART, SPI, CAN, and USB.
- Collaborate with small teams to share a broad variety of duties, contributing to system design, integration, testing, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in flight test operations, including on-site support and problem resolution, which may involve travel.
- Apply sound judgment in selecting methods and techniques to develop solutions for a wide range of technical issues.
- Share ideas and experiences with colleagues, solicit feedback, and ask relevant questions to enhance team performance and product quality.

Requirements
- B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Minimum of 5–8 years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
- Proficiency with office software, computer-based productivity tools, and other software tools relevant to electrical engineering work.
- Hands-on experience using Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: Radio Frequency (RF), embedded control, or FPGA design.
- Experience with power electronics, including motor control and battery technologies such as lead acid, nickel metal hydride, and lithium-ion.
- Demonstrated competency in troubleshooting complex electronic systems.
- Familiarity with common industry communication protocols including LVDS, I2C, HDMI, UART, SPI, CAN, and USB.
- Strong knowledge of general engineering fundamentals, including mathematics, physics, and material properties.
- Ability to resolve a wide range of technical issues using creative and practical approaches.
- Sound judgment in the selection of methods and techniques for obtaining engineering solutions.
- Effective problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment where small teams share a broad variety of duties.
- Clean driving record to support travel requirements.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is a plus.
- Flight test or remote control (R/C) experience is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with tools and laboratory equipment is a plus.
- Familiarity with small unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) subsystems and associated software.

Pay
The pay range for this position is $130,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year. Individual compensation offered within this range will depend on factors including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, and internal equity.
