Independently performs Electrical Engineer activities for all phases of electrical development and equipment design for projects of moderate size and complexity. Must be fully competent in performing all conventional aspects of Electrical Engineering and applying independent judgment for evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard design criteria, methods, and procedures. Assignments involve investigating multiple variables.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provides technical guidance to less experienced drafting or engineering personnel.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a 4-year degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in computer software packages and automated engineering/design tools.
  • Registration as a Texas licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required; established NCEES Record and additional state PE licenses preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with clients’ technical staff to discuss technical information and features.
  • Prepare sketches and perform calculations for detailed project segments.
  • Conduct field trips to existing plants to gather operating data and equipment information.
  • Prepare equipment specifications, inquiry and purchase requisitions for approval.
  • Evaluate vendors' bids and drawings for compliance with specifications.
  • Communicate equipment design to clients and other design disciplines.
  • Review and approve design drawings for assigned project segments.
  • Participate in reviews of Process Flow Diagrams and Piping and Instrument Diagrams.
  • Participate in preparing equipment lists and load summaries.
  • Monitor subcontracted technical services' activities.
  • Participate in preparing design guides, guide specifications, and contract proposals.
  • Participate in plant start-ups and field assignments as required.
  • Participate in equipment inspections at vendors' facilities.
  • Ensure production of drawings, specifications, reports, and analysis meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
  • May participate with construction personnel concerning constructability issues related to field conditions, sequencing, and scheduling.
  • May require foreign travel and assignment.

Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, managers, designers, and engineers.
  • Proficiency in mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, geometry, trigonometry, and practical applications of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.

Physical Demands

  • Occasional field trips to operating plants or construction sites requiring normal hearing, standing, walking, reaching, climbing, and balancing.
  • Clear close and distance vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

Work Environment

  • Primary work environment is a business office with moderate noise.
  • Occasional visits or temporary assignments to operating plants or construction sites may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.
