Electrical Emergency Power Technician

About the Role

Emergency Power Technicians travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up, and collect data of low voltage (60V to 600V) electrical systems. Technicians complete automatic transfer switch servicing and troubleshooting along with low voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing. Must have practical knowledge and experience in using electrical test equipment to complete assigned job tasks. Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• Implement procedures and tasks as provided by foreman, manager, director, or project manager.
• Drive daily locally/regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel.
• Complete assigned tasks in a safe and workmanlike manner.
• Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other senior management.
• Comprehend and utilize software and applications used in field operations.
• Be on the On-Call schedule on a rotating basis.
• Be available for occasional in- and out-of-state jobs and training courses.
• Complete and deliver reports, proposals, and required documentation.
• Maintain regular attendance and timeliness.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Familiar with Electrical industry standards and codes.
• Prior experience in the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment and supporting structures.
• Ability to translate and understand simple and complex electrical drawings and schematics.
• Knowledge of ATS, Switchgear, UPS, GFCI, and other critical/emergency power system equipment.
• Familiar with electrical test equipment such as multimeters, IR Cams, load monitors, etc.
• Experience utilizing power tools (saws, crimpers, drills, etc.) safely on construction and operational work sites.
• Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
• Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Good PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Excel; experience with various electrical system programs a plus.
• Valid driver's license and ability to maintain a good driving record.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime, including occasional weekends, holidays, and nights.
• Ability to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
• OSHA 10-hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training preferred.
• Ability to react to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
• 3-5 years commercial Field Technician experience within the electrical industry or similar.
• Associate's degree from an accredited 2-year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), an EE Degree from an ABET-accredited college, or similar experience and training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee) preferred.
• Manufacture ATS, PLC, UPS, and other equipment certifications a plus.
