Electrical Electronic Craftsworker (TC-J).

About the Role

Performs installation, maintenance, and repair of analog and digital electronic equipment related to data collection systems, centralized remote and local control systems, protective relay systems, power supply systems, and communications systems. Provides support in developing standard procedures for installation, upgrade, inspection, testing, and preventive maintenance of electronic and electrical systems. Supports regulatory requirements on bulk electric system equipment by testing, recording, and reporting results on various electrical equipment. Occasionally performs lower-level electrical/electronic duties to ensure continuity of project operations.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair analog and digital electronic equipment for data collection, control, protective relay, power supply, and communications systems.
• Develop and support standard procedures for installation, upgrades, inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance of electronic and electrical systems.
• Test, record, and report results on electrical equipment to meet regulatory requirements for the bulk electric system.
• Perform lower-level electrical/electronic tasks to support project continuity.
• Use testing equipment such as digital multi-meters, relay test sets, and optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDR).
• Work under the supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee.

Requirements

• Subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing thereafter, including testing based on reasonable suspicion or involvement in an on-duty accident.
• Appointment may require a suitability or fitness determination, including a completed background investigation.
• Must complete a pre-employment physical examination and annual examinations thereafter.
• Ability to lift heavy objects, with vision for distance, color distinction, and calibration, and appropriate hearing capability for conversation and warning signals.
• Must possess a valid State driver’s license.
• Must obtain and maintain Information Assurance (IA) Certification (Technician I level) pursuant to DoD 8570.01-m and AR 25-2.
• Must demonstrate the ability to perform common tasks of the Electrical Electronic Craftsworker position without more than normal supervision.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required, but you must demonstrate sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work without more than normal supervision.

Physical Efforts

• Handles heavy parts and equipment, often in cramped quarters and tiring positions.
• Frequently climbs stairs and ladders, and lifts, carries, pushes, pulls, and twists objects weighing up to 45 pounds (occasionally over 45 pounds).
• Stands for long periods on hard surfaces and works in awkward positions requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and twisting.
• Requires concentrated mental and visual attention to determine causes of trouble, interpret complex drawings, and coordinate manual dexterity with close visual attention for sustained periods.
• Ability to distinguish colors is essential.

Working Conditions

• Works both indoors (e.g., powerhouses, structures) and outdoors, exposed to climate conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and snow.
• Work environment may be unpleasant due to weather, dirt, grease, dust, and high noise levels.
• Danger of serious injury or death from contact with energized equipment or drowning when working above swift-moving water.
• May work with toxic or caustic materials and in concrete structures.
• Risk of cuts, burns, falls, and electrical shock.
• Required to wear safety equipment such as ear plugs, hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and safety harnesses.
