About the role

This position offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer eager to gain hands-on project experience, collaborate with industry experts, and grow within a company that prioritizes professional development. You'll work on meaningful utility projects, develop technical skills, and contribute to designs supporting the City of Charlotte's large-scale initiatives, as well as utility installations and upgrades for DOT projects. This role provides a mix of office work, field visits, and some remote flexibility, offering well-rounded exposure to all phases of project execution and design.

Responsibilities

  • Apply technical knowledge to designs, ensuring adherence to project specifications, scope, cost, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with Customers & Construction to complete design packages.
  • Support the preparation of simple designs including calculations, drawings, and analysis.
  • Gain hands-on experience with CAD programs (e.g., Maximo and DesignLight).
  • Apply industry codes and standards, including RUS, NESC, and utility-specific guidelines.
  • Conduct field inspections for every job to gather design data, establish customer contact, and support construction coordination.
  • Communicate challenges related to scope, cost, schedule, or quality clearly and professionally to appropriate contacts.
  • Identify information that should be communicated to clients and stakeholders through team leads and project managers.
  • Self-check design work prior to reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from ABET accredited university
  • Minimum 0-1 years of electrical distribution design experience
  • Client-Focused Customer Service & Relationship Management
  • Willingness to travel locally as needed for project & storm support
