Electrical Controls Specialist

Salary details based on experience: $58/hr. - $62/hr. Full-time, year-round position.

About the role

The Electrical Controls Specialist inspects, maintains, repairs, modifies, and upgrades ride control systems to ensure safe and efficient operations. Responsibilities and requirements may vary by location.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate solid knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and both AC & DC, high and low voltage motor control circuits.
• Inspect and evaluate rides for proper function.
• Detect and investigate electronic/electrical malfunctions or irregularities and respond to daily trouble calls.
• Order parts as needed for maintaining ride control systems.
• Ensure rides are maintained according to manufacturer, Six Flags, and state guidelines to guarantee safety for ride control operators and guests.
• Suggest improvements or retrofitting for existing ride control systems when variables such as obsolescence indicate the need.
• Coordinate activities with other departments and crews as necessary.
• Maintain a working copy of existing control system software and stay up-to-date with newer versions.
• Maintain integrity of ride control programs and annually check for discrepancies in each ride system.
• Coordinate and perform annual preventative maintenance of ride control systems.
• Maintain documentation of ride control systems.
• Prepare and/or process maintenance records, shift reports, purchase orders, modification forms, estimates, contract agreements, schedules, etc.
• Assist in other areas where control expertise is required, such as energy management lighting systems.
• Attend workshops, trainings, meetings, etc., to maintain skills and stay current with industry trends, products, and resources.
• Receive and review various records and reports, including maintenance requests, maintenance reports, schematics, ride modification forms, purchase orders, equipment manuals, shift reports, safety sheets, downtime reports, and contractor quotes.
• Refer to policy and procedure manuals, maintenance manuals, technical manuals, diagrams, blueprints, computer manuals, ride manuals, catalogs, and reference manuals.
• Operate a variety of equipment and machinery, which may include vehicles, snorkel lifts, forklifts, computers, two-way radios, etc.
• Interact and communicate with various groups and individuals, such as supervisors, park managers, staff, co-workers, guests, vendors, contractors, and inspectors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associate degree (2-year college) in Electrical/Electronic repair and maintenance.
• 4-6 years of electrical controls experience, including at least 2 years working on similar electrical and electronic controls.
• Substantial understanding of the job and ability to apply knowledge and skills to complete a wide range of tasks.
• Experience working on diversified assignments of moderate difficulty, requiring judgment in analyzing facts and determining actions within standard practices.
• Works under direction with established objectives; receives little instruction on daily work and general instructions on new assignments.
• Performs complex projects related to electrical/electronic ride control.
• Solid knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers, processors, components, and communication networks used in real-time industrial applications.
• Excellent skills in motor and motion control methods and components, and in designing and implementing closed-loop motion control.
• Proficiency with tools and equipment required for the role.
• Ability to use PLC software and test equipment for programming and configuration.
• Directly related experience or a combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.

Schedule

Ability to work various shifts and days, including nights, weekends, and holiday periods to meet business needs.
