About the role
The Electrical Construction Manager serves as the Owner’s Representative responsible for overseeing the installation, coordination, and commissioning of building electrical systems across mission-critical data center construction projects. This role focuses on managing contractor performance, ensuring installation quality, and maintaining alignment with project schedules, technical requirements, and design intent.
Responsibilities
- Schedule Management
- Oversee electrical construction schedules for building electrical systems and critical power infrastructure including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution, and commissioning-related activities
- Lead and participate in weekly schedule review meetings with contractors and vendors
- Carefully coordinate detailed planning sessions for electrical construction activities
- Manage delivery, installation, and startup schedules for OFCI electrical equipment
- Maintain alignment between electrical installation activities, equipment readiness, and commissioning requirements
- Track schedule dependencies between base build, customer fit-out, and electrical readiness milestones
- Field Coordination & Technical Oversight
- Provide QA/QC oversight for electrical installations and ensure compliance with project specifications and design intent
- Maintain safety compliance in coordination with site leadership
- Support development and review of electrical MOPs, energization plans, shutdown procedures, and notifications
- Track weekly field progress and develop accurate reporting for leadership and stakeholders
- Oversee receiving, inspection, and tracking of OFCI electrical equipment
- Coordinate with electrical contractors, equipment vendors, inspectors, utility providers, and commissioning agents
- Review electrical installations in the field to verify conformance with drawings, specifications, and approved submittals
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues affecting installation, startup, and commissioning activities
- Project Management & Reporting
- Lead or support weekly OAC or electrical coordination meetings and issue detailed meeting minutes
- Develop weekly project reporting for electrical scope status, risks, and schedule alignment
- Track electrical construction progress, issue resolution, commissioning readiness, and key project milestones
- Manage electrical closeout activities including as-builts, O&M documentation, startup documentation, and punchlist resolution
- Design Coordination
- Manage electrical design coordination after initial design development
- Integrate customer fit-out electrical packages with base build designs
- Review and coordinate electrical design revisions and field-driven design clarifications
- Support electrical construction administration and design RFIs
- Collaborate with design teams to ensure constructability and adherence to project requirements
- Permitting / AHJ Coordination
- Track and coordinate electrical permit submissions and updates
- Support AHJ inspections, energization milestones, and certificate of occupancy requirements related to electrical systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- 7–10 years of electrical construction or mission-critical project experience (Data Center, Semiconductor, Labs, or similar)
- Strong experience with building electrical systems including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution, electrical rooms, and critical power infrastructure
- Demonstrated experience managing electrical contractors, vendors, commissioning teams, and field activities on large-scale construction projects
- Strong understanding of electrical construction sequencing, startup, testing, and commissioning processes
- Experience reviewing electrical drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and construction documentation
- Familiarity with electrical codes, industry standards, and mission-critical facility requirements
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
- PMP, CCM, PE license, or related professional certification is a plus
- Ability to proactively identify issues, evaluate technical solutions, and drive resolution across multiple stakeholders
- Strong understanding of QA/QC processes and electrical construction best practices
- Ability to effectively communicate with owners, contractors, vendors, commissioning agents, and project teams in both office and field environments
