About the Role

As an Electrical Builder at Clayton, you will install, connect, test, and troubleshoot electrical systems in the construction of manufactured homes. This role involves rough wiring, panel box installation, fixture installation, electrical testing, and quality inspections while maintaining safety, quality, and production standards.

Responsibilities

• Rough Wiring & Electrical Installation
  • Read production work orders, blueprints, and specifications to determine electrical requirements.
  • Measure, cut, label, route, and secure electrical wiring throughout the home in accordance with engineering specifications and National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements.
  • Install light boxes, exhaust fans, and other rough electrical components.
  • Secure wiring and install wire protection devices as required.
• Panel Box & Circuit Installation
  • Assemble, install, and wire electrical panel boxes.
  • Connect and secure branch circuits to the appropriate breakers.
  • Ground electrical systems in accordance with engineering specifications and NEC requirements.
  • Connect electrical systems to furnaces, water heaters, and other installed equipment.
• Fixture Installation
  • Install receptacles, GFCI outlets, switches, thermostats, smoke detectors, lighting fixtures, ceiling fans, and other electrical devices.
  • Install specialty receptacles, communication components, and related electrical accessories.
  • Secure and connect wiring on marriage walls and other designated locations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues identified during production.
• Final Electrical Testing & Inspection
  • Complete final electrical connections for appliances and equipment.
  • Perform operational checks on outlets, switches, lighting, appliances, and electrical systems.
  • Conduct required dielectric and electrical safety testing.
  • Verify proper polarity, continuity, grounding, and overall system functionality.
  • Install required electrical labels and complete production documentation.
• Quality & Safety
  • Maintain compliance with engineering specifications, DAPIA requirements, and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
  • Inspect work throughout the installation process to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Follow all electrical safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Additional Responsibilities
  • Support production goals and team objectives.
  • Maintain work area cleanliness and organization.
  • Actively participate in cross-training and skill development opportunities to increase versatility and support department operations.
  • Maintain proficiency in trained job functions and apply skills as needed to meet business demands.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Manufacturing, construction, electrical, or related experience preferred.

Skills

• Ability to read blueprints, production work orders, and electrical schematics.
• Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure.
• Basic knowledge of electrical systems and safe work practices.
• Familiarity with National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements preferred.
• Good reasoning, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to distinguish colors when working with electrical wiring.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, stretching, and reaching.
• Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to climb in, out of, and throughout homes repeatedly during the workday.
• Ability to work on ladders, scaffolds, and elevated work areas.
• Frequent use of hands for wiring, fastening, lifting, and material handling.
• Ability to distinguish colors when identifying electrical wiring.

Work Environment

• Manufacturing environment with exposure to electrical components, construction materials, sealants, and moving equipment.
• Work performed in an uncontrolled climate environment.
• Potential exposure to electrical hazards while performing assigned duties.
• Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.

Testing Requirements

• Pre-employment drug screen.
