Electrical and Instrumentation Technician

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Electrical and Instrumentation Technician for our state-of-the-art 100% recycled paper mill in Shreveport, LA. This role involves installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of intermediate to advanced control system problems for all electrical equipment at the mill, ensuring maximum uptime.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot electrical equipment, including plant lighting, motors, starters, motor control centers, control panels, transformers, and switches on the Paper Machine, Winder, and other equipment.
• Understand work orders and troubleshoot malfunctioning electrical equipment.
• Communicate orally with team members, operators, and management, and maintain accurate records.
• Read and interpret electrical measuring devices accurately.
• Run/bend conduit and pull wire.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, working individually or in teams.
• Direct and supervise electrical contractors when required.
• Plan and supervise shutdown work activities.
• Follow safe procedures and workplace policies, including lock-out/tag-out and zero energy state protocols.
• Climb steps or ladders to troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Lift 40-80 pounds and assist co-workers with material handling (lifting devices available for weights above 80 lbs).

Requirements

• Associate’s degree from a two-year college in a related technical field, diploma from a technical/trade school, or completion of a National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (NJATC) or equivalent program for the Electrical Industry.
• Experience in electrical construction and/or maintenance of an industrial manufacturing facility (paper manufacturing plant experience is an asset).
• Basic computer skills.
• Excellent hand and finger dexterity for using hand tools and powered equipment.

Physical Work Requirements

• Ability to climb steps or ladders for troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Lift 40-80 pounds; lifting devices provided for weights above 80 lbs.
• Adhere to all safety protocols, including lock-out/tag-out and hazard observation.

Schedule

12-hour rotating day/night shift schedule, with additional coverage required for shutdowns and vacations.
