About the role
The position can be filled as Electric Locator I or Electric Locator II depending on qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities
- Be a safety champion; obey all safe work procedures, perform daily Hazard Assessments, maintain vehicle inspections, attend all required safety meetings, complete all safety mandated training and report any safety events including near misses.
- Capable of completing assigned single locating ticket Load with supervision.
- Capable of closing out locate tickets on a tablet or computer.
- Able to accurately locate, paint and flag one utility.
- Able to read all maps and/or prints for one utility.
- Inspect and report defective pedestals, meters, transformers etc.
- Controls and safeguards keys assigned to them for use on customer’s property.
- Detect and report suspected tampering with pedestals and equipment.
- Record all completed tickets (work), utilizing proper codes.
- Record/document inconsistencies in locating area.
- Must have basic computer skills.
- Other duties as needed.
Requirements
- Electric Locator I: Minimum of 0-2 Years in the utility or construction industry performing work requiring a mechanical aptitude with demonstrated use of maps/prints for detailed measurement dimensions for pinpointing facilities with three dimensional measurements.
- OR One year or experience directly related to the electric and fiber business.
- OR One year of utility locate experience.
- Electric Locator II: Minimum of 2-4 Years of locating experience.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision on standard jobs.
Qualifications
- General knowledge of electric/fiber locating standards or willingness to learn.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle.
- Ability to obtain/maintain TWIC card and pass background checks.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with fault-finding tools and software.
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
- Commitment to safety, process improvement, and continuous learning.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
Skills
- Knowledge of electric/fiber damage prevention or willingness to learn.
- Valid driver’s license, TWIC card, and background clearance.
- Safety-focused with strong PPE compliance and hazard mitigation skills.
- Mechanically inclined; skilled in locating tools and related software.
- Able to interpret construction and underground system drawings.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service abilities.
- Physically capable (lift 50 lbs) and able to operate company vehicles.
- Follows instructions, manages shifting priorities, and works well under pressure.
- Self-motivated team player with a questioning attitude.
- Maintains equipment and safeguards company assets.
