About the role
This classification provides first-line supervision for staff involved in conducting federal, state, and county elections, specifically overseeing Election Day Poll Workers.
Responsibilities
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff: develops and oversees employee work schedules; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems; counsels or disciplines as appropriate; completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
- Provides customer service: answers questions about voting, resolves issues and problems, aids voters in using online tools, and escalates issues to management when necessary.
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains poll officials and temporary workers: creates and administers training curriculum and election procedures; updates training materials; reserves training locations; coordinates training and election day schedules; oversees printing and distribution of training materials.
- Designs and coordinates training classes for poll workers using various methods (PowerPoint, video, online, hands-on); manages training schedule, materials, and staffing for 24+ facilitators per election; supervises seasonal and part-time workers in compliance with county policies and applicable laws.
- Assesses training effectiveness and adjusts as needed; ensures accurate tracking and reporting of class attendance to comply with state law; creates reports and charts using Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel; ensures department compliance with all regulatory standards.
- Maintains inventory of election equipment, supplies, and office materials; updates and inventories equipment after each election.
- Researches, compiles, monitors, and reports on election operations data; summarizes data, performs routine analysis, and prepares reports; merges data into documents using templates.
- Processes documents to update voter records.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate Degree in Public Administration or a related field, supplemented by five years of progressively responsible experience managing elections and voter registration, including lead or supervisory experience.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in previous elections.
Skills
- Ability to exert light physical effort (lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling objects up to 10 pounds).
- Ability to work extended periods at a keyboard or workstation.
- Strong oral communication skills.
