Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel to elderly clients and their families on a variety of elder law issues, including estate planning, wills, trusts, retirement asset planning, and long-term care Medicaid.
- Draft and review legal documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and health care directives.
- Develop and implement effective estate and gift tax strategies.
- Navigate the complexities of Medicaid regulations and assist clients in planning for long-term care.
- Draft revocable and irrevocable trusts, ensuring they meet the specific needs and goals of the clients.
- Advocate for the rights of the elderly in various settings, including courtrooms, nursing homes, and administrative hearings.
- Stay updated with the latest changes in elder law and related areas to provide the most current and effective legal advice to clients.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- A current license to practice law in Virginia and admission to the Virginia Bar.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in elder law, estate planning, and related areas.
- Proven experience in retirement asset planning, estate and gift tax planning, and drafting revocable and irrevocable trusts.
- In-depth knowledge of wills, trusts, property law, and Medicaid regulations.
- Strong advocacy skills and a passion for elder law.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and their families.
- High ethical standards and professionalism, with a commitment to maintaining client confidentiality.
- The ability to work independently and manage a high-volume caseload effectively.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify and resolve complex legal issues.
- Familiarity with legal research tools and software.
