About the Role

The Gerontology Program in the Department of Social Work seeks an adjunct instructor to teach the Elder Law for Gerontological Professionals course in the fully online, accredited Master of Science in Gerontology program. The course runs for 7.5 weeks from August through October.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct and guide the class in an efficient and effective manner
  • Use course materials in Canvas effectively
  • Maintain accurate records of student work and attendance
  • Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment
  • Grade and return student work in a timely manner
  • Counsel students regarding their grades and progress in the course
  • Comply with the university’s professional development procedures for online instructors

Requirements

  • Meet SACSCOC guidelines for teaching graduate classes: a terminal degree in the field of instruction, or a combination of a graduate degree and significant work experience in the field
  • Preferably an elder law attorney or experience working in an elder law practice
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of online pedagogy and experience teaching online students

Pay

$4,000 per course

Schedule

  • Temporary, semester-based appointment
  • 7.5-week course duration (August through October)
  • 0.225 FTE (approximately 9 months per year)

Work Environment

  • Primarily online instruction
  • Physical effort includes repetitive hand movements, reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, hearing, talking, standing, and sitting
