ELC Teacher - Non-Lead

Assist the lead teacher in classroom instruction and help provide a loving, Christian environment for children in accordance with the Board-approved curriculum guides to fulfill the mission of Prince of Peace Christian School.

Responsibilities

  • Follow course objectives and program in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the school.
  • Consider the needs of individual children, including their interests, special talents, and learning styles.
  • Maintain order and safety in the classroom and on the playground.
  • Counsel pupils when adjustment problems arise.
  • Maintain and check the Parent Portal daily to keep parents informed of the student’s routine.
  • Discuss pupil’s behavior and achievements with the lead classroom teacher and director.
  • Perform diaper changes multiple times a day.
  • Be available to attend meetings and training as required; assist with ELC on in-service days, holiday care days, and after-school care for staff children during meetings.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform the job competently during a probationary period of up to 90 days.
  • Interact with courtesy, respect, and patience toward children, parents, and staff.
  • Work as a team with the lead teacher and co-teachers.
  • Substitute in other ELC classrooms when needed, if available.
  • Be flexible and available to work assigned hours, including holiday care days.
  • Earn a minimum of 24 clock hours of training per teaching year through approved professional growth opportunities (registration costs covered by ELC).
  • Clean, sanitize, and store equipment, materials, and supplies daily.
  • Complete Incident Reports regarding any injury to a child or self.

Requirements

  • Active member of a Christian church.
  • Minimum age of 18 with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required; must maintain recertification as necessary.
  • Previous work experience demonstrating dependability, responsibility, and maturity.
  • Experience working with young children in a school or similar educational setting.
  • Must pass a background check with fingerprinting.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to physically tend to students: talk, hear, use hands, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms, sit, stand, and walk.
  • Specific vision abilities include distance vision and peripheral vision.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Exposure to illness-causing bacteria and viruses.

Schedule

  • Operating hours for ELC: Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM year-round.
  • Schedule is made to maintain room ratios during ELC open operating hours.
  • May need to attend meetings at the beginning of the school year prior to the official start of school.
