About the role
The EKG Technician acquires EKG's, applies Holter monitors, operates the EKG management system, follows infection control guidelines, performs office duties, trains new personnel, and assists with performance improvement plans.
Responsibilities
- Acquires EKG's and applies Holter monitors
- Operates the EKG management system including editing process
- Follows infection control guidelines
- Performs office duties such as answering the phone, completing paperwork, filing, test results, and front office duties
- Complies with hospital and departmental policies and procedures
- Trains new personnel
- Assists with routine, echo, and nuclear stress tests
- Scans Holter monitor tests and prepares reports for physician interpretation
- Completes special assignments as required
Requirements
- Knowledgeable on basic troubleshooting procedures for the EPIPHANY system
- Demonstrates competency in performing exercise, stress echo, and nuclear stress testing
- Demonstrates competency in operating the Holter Monitor system, scanning Holter tests, recognizing cardiac arrhythmias, and preparing physician reports
- Retrieves and files medical records ensuring patient confidentiality
- Transmits EKG files and troubleshoots the MUSE and communication modems
- Utilizes accurate lead placement, acquires artifact-free tracings for 12 Lead EKG
- Cleans tracings/readings, educates patients, and appropriately places leads for Holter, event monitor, mobile telemetry, and ambulatory blood pressure hook-ups
- Edits EKG reports in the EPIPHANY system and prepares reports as required
- Looks up patient information in Powerchart for clinical purposes
- Documents patient information accurately in the EPIPHANY and stress systems
- Communicates with patients, families, employees, and physician staff using verbal and written skills
- Manages time effectively within the shift and assists others as necessary
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
