EHS Sr Specialist

About the Role

Designs, develops, implements, and oversees the organization's environmental, health, and safety programs and procedures to safeguard employees and surrounding communities, ensuring all facilities comply with regulations. This role requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in environmental health and safety and may lead projects or serve as a resource for colleagues. The position involves solving complex problems with minimal guidance and acting as a generalist or specialist in multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Outline and implement policies or programs to educate and promote employee health and safety or environmental compliance.
• Deliver training programs educating staff on environmental concerns or health and safety risks.
• Communicate regularly with management and administration regarding the status of environmental initiatives.
• Ensure training records, health/safety manuals, incident/accident reports, and other documentation are appropriately maintained.
• Track and document accidents to understand causes and recommend changes to prevent future incidents.
• Monitor known health, safety, or environmental hazards, such as noise, air, or wastewater pollution levels.
• Coordinate inspections of facilities, vehicles, or equipment and recommend corrections or additional precautions to ensure compliance with regulations.
• Communicate facility-specific emergency response or evacuation plans.
• Maintain broad and current knowledge of all government and applicable industry safety regulations.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree and 5-7 years of experience OR equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods.
• Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
• Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
• Up to 25% travel likely.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related discipline.
• Experience with safety best practices, communications, inspections, investigations, policies, procedures, and training.
• Knowledge of inspection documentation and Process Safety Management.
