About the role
EHS Specialist is an on-site position at the Cape Girardeau - Spartech Team. The role provides strategic assistance to ensure compliance with and effective implementation of OSHA, EPA, DOT regulations as well as any other associated regulations. The EHS Specialist leads the development of a risk-aware/risk mitigation culture at the facility, fostering an environment where employees contribute to their own accountability and risk mitigation efforts.
Responsibilities
- Obtains and maintains all applicable regulatory permits (air, stormwater, sanitary, waste)
- Reviews/prepares all annual OSHA and environmental reports and maintains supporting documentation
- Provides technical support to plant personnel regarding OSHA, local, state & federal environmental and DOT regulations
- Identifies continuous improvement opportunities to improve overall Health and Safety performance across the site
- Maintain all facility EHS records and KPIs
- Participates in chemical and material review. Maintains chemical inventory for the site
- Manages all Corporate Standards and Processes
- Manages and facilitates internal audit and inspection programs related to environment, health and safety
- Provides technical support and guidance to the review of equipment modifications, risk assessments, and capital installations
- Lead and actively participate in site safety committee and cross-plant teams
- Leads investigations for all safety incidents, and injuries in conjunction with operations, maintenance and HR
- Coordinates evaluation, purchase and distribution of safety equipment and supplies
- Manages site injuries and incidents including workers' compensation programs and guidelines
- Develops hazard control practices and programs in conjunction with corporate EHSS
- Supports compliance with installation, maintenance, and auditing of all security, fire protection equipment and alarms
- Stays up to date on regulatory requirements
- Supports new hire orientation training
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Chemistry or related technical field, or equivalent work experience
- Knowledge: Knowledge of safety and health and environmental codes and regulations required
- Skills: Computer skills: Proficiency with word-processing and spreadsheet applications required (MS Word & Excel preferred); Strong organizational skills required; Excellent oral and written communication skills required
- Experience: Ten (10) years of experience in manufacturing environment in a progressive EH&S role
Qualifications
- Proven leadership competencies including problem solving, decision making, motivation, ethical performance, teamwork, results oriented
Skills
