EHS Specialist
About the role
This position focuses on training employees on safety processes and initiatives. Responsibilities include maintaining compliance with EHS regulations, conducting safety training, handling regulatory inspections, and managing safety systems.
Responsibilities
- Conducts safety training with employees
- Inspects/evaluates environment, equipment and processes for compliance with safety/environment regulations
- Delivers safety and health training programs and distributes personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Engages employees to ensure safe work practices and corrects unsafe behavior or conditions
- Enters data into safety systems and conducts audits to identify unsafe conditions and hazardous situations
- Tracks, logs, and follows up on safety observations; handles regulatory inspections and visits, such as KYOSHA and HYDEP
- Completes reports for submission to EPA, OSHA or other regulatory agencies as required
- Performs monitoring and testing for permit requirements; assists with sampling and shipping samples to off-site labs
- Assists with facility alarm and sprinkler systems and emergency response systems
- Administers first aid for minor injuries and prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements for assigned programs
- Collaborates with Facility Management and completes other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety or related field or equivalent experience
- OSHA training of 30 hours or more preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Solid understanding of environmental practices and Federal/State safety rules and regulations
- Possess or obtain certification in General Industry 30-hour class
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
- Valid driver’s license
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively at all levels
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
- Experience with Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to adapt to frequent changes in workload and priority
- Passes pre-employment, post-offer drug test and fitness for duty medical review and exam
- Background check clears any and all felonies and misdemeanors in the past 7 years
- Experience with SAFE START or similar safety program, preferred
