EHS Programs and Compliance Assurance Leader, Americas
About the role
As the Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Program and Compliance Assurance Leader for the Americas, you will manage, lead, and track the implementation of EHS programs, including Process Safety Management (PSM) at required locations. This role provides strategic and tactical direction, leadership, and technical support to advance EHS requirements in alignment with Trane Technologies, Regional, and SBU standards. You will serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for PSM and oversee compliance assurance activities such as internal and external audits. The position supports the SBU EHS director on additional initiatives and requires up to 50% travel.
Responsibilities
- Ensure EHS Standard Work is implemented and layered audits are conducted based on Trane Technologies' Business Operating System (BOS) requirements.
- Manage and implement the EHS Management System requirements across the region.
- Support the launch of activities to incorporate standard work and develop a culture of process discipline.
- Develop EHS and business leaders to create, implement, and sustain EHS standard work at each site.
- Manage and implement Process Safety Management (PSM) at required locations, ensuring systems, procedures, competency, and best practices are applied.
- Onboard and develop internal PSM resources at plant locations.
- Interface with PSM consultants to drive program development and implementation.
- Assist sites during PSM audits with preparation and closure of findings.
- Ensure systems are in place to monitor and achieve compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Create and implement systems for compliance with internal company requirements (e.g., Action Tracking System, Compliance Calendar, Permit Manager).
- Provide problem-solving input for short-term and long-term opportunities and manage EHS resource recommendations.
- Implement strategies to reduce work site incidents in alignment with EHS reduction goals.
- Coach and develop plant EHS teams on root cause analysis for accidents/injuries.
- Provide timely EHS performance trends, root cause corrective actions, and guidance to leadership.
- Support employee engagement around EHS and key leadership initiatives.
- Act as a liaison between business units/corporate and service teams to resolve issues.
- Develop strategies to stay current on EHS legislation and technical advances.
- Support M&A activities as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 7+ years of direct EHS management and supervisory responsibility.
- Proven skills in implementing complex safety programs and procedures.
- Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, PSM, EPA, and DOT regulations, including interpretation of local and state environmental and safety standards.
- Results-oriented with a manufacturing process background and ability to implement EHS Management system elements, including PSM.
- One or more safety-related professional certifications desired (e.g., CHMM, CSP).
- Proven ability to teach, coach, and interact effectively with all levels of leadership and plant personnel.
- Knowledge of material concerns (metals & VOCs) and methods for exposure reduction and control.
- Solid experience with environmental laws (waste, air, and water).
- Demonstrated experience integrating EHS into manufacturing processes preferred.
- Strong computer and analytical skills, high motivation, and passion for EHS management with minimal direction needed.
- Six Sigma Green Belt certification and familiarity with lean manufacturing tools, including basic problem solving (BPS).
Schedule
Monday to Thursday: onsite with colleagues. Fridays: flexible work location, balancing work requirements.
Pay
Annual Base Salary Range: $123,721.66 - $173,004.99. This is a salaried position with incentive eligibility. Compensation is tailored to factors such as seniority, merit, geographic location, education, experience, travel requirements, and union designation.
