About the role

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector is seeking an Industrial Hygienist and Safety Environmental, Health & Safety Professional to join our Environmental, Health, Safety, and Fire Protection team in San Diego, California.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and interprets existing and proposed EHS regulations to determine applicability and impact for sites.
  • Affords assistance with implementation of programs to comply.
  • Partners with engineers, technicians, and management to support the integration of EHS into the design of new or altered processes, operations and building construction projects.
  • Affords assistance in the development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigation.
  • Completes audits, IH sampling, ergonomic assessments, and affords assistance in pollution prevention activities.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains EHS programs for manufacturing, labs, and office buildings to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigation.
  • Conducts internal compliance inspections and identifies actions necessary to meet local, state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Interfaces with regulatory representatives, senior management, and site employees.
  • Provides timely and accurate submission of necessary reports to internal stakeholders, electronic databases, and regulatory agencies.
  • Writes and updates EHS plans and procedures.
  • Applies for new permits and renewals.
  • Conducts incident investigations.
  • Congratulates employees on EHS training and conducts instructor-led EHS training.

Requirements

  • For Level 2: Bachelor’s (BA or BS) degree in safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or a related field, and 2 or more years of experience; or a Master of Science (MS) in the same disciplines with 1 or more years of experience.
  • Ability to recognize, evaluate, and control occupational exposures through industrial hygiene sampling, analysis, and risk reduction measures.
  • Experience leading/managing projects or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience preparing or supporting regulatory inspections.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret Clearance.
  • For Level 3: Bachelor’s (BA or BS) in safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or a related field, and 5 or more years of experience; or a Master of Science (MS) in the same disciplines with 3 or more years of experience.
  • Experience in evaluating and controlling occupational exposures through industrial hygiene sampling, analysis, and risk reduction measures.
  • Experience leading/managing projects or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience preparing or supporting regulatory inspections.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret Clearance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s (BA or BS) degree in safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or a related field, and 2 or more years of experience; or a Master of Science (MS) in the same disciplines with 1 or more years of experience.

Skills

  • Experience in any of the following areas: conducting incident investigations, inspections, personal protective equipment assessments, job hazard analysis, EHS training, industrial hygiene, other environmental compliance programs such as stormwater, hazardous waste, CUPA, pollution prevention, DOT, or sustainability.
  • Experience with supporting EHS programs for manufacturing.
  • Professional certifications in EHS related programs (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, Associate Safety Professional, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist).
  • Experience with overseeing third party consultants/contractors.
  • Previous DoD, Military or Aerospace facilities experience.

Benefits

The position comes with a competitive salary range of $83,400.00 - $125,200.00 for Level 2 and $103,600.00 - $155,400.00 for Level 3. Additionally, Northrop Grumman offers a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

Pay

The primary level salary range is $83,400.00 - $125,200.00 and the secondary level salary range is $103,600.00 - $155,400.00.
