About the Role

The EHS Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and sustainment of EHS programs and systems to ensure the safety of all employees, visitors, and contractors, protect the environment, and maintain compliance with all global and local regulations. This role actively engages employees at all levels to drive a culture of accountability, commitment, and teamwork. The EHS Manager provides expertise in environmental health and safety, monitors compliance with applicable laws and company policies, and reports directly to the Site Leader.

Responsibilities

  • EHS Leadership
    • Support the Site Leader in delivering the EHS improvement program at the assigned facility.
    • Ensure coordination with facility leadership and adherence to company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
    • Partner with the Facility Lead to develop EHS strategy and improvement agendas.
    • Participate as a key member of the facility’s leadership team, driving compliance solutions and EHS simplification.
    • Implement and support the facility risk management and risk assessment process.
    • Drive continuous improvement and operationalization of EHS programs, procedures, and tools to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company best practices.
    • Lead and drive EHS operationalization and accountability across all employees through collaboration with the local leadership team.
    • Share ideas, best practices, and learnings to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the business.
  • Compliance Assurance
    • Monitor compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations.
    • Stay abreast of emerging EHS regulations and implement as applicable.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the local team, community, and regulators.
    • Interface with external bodies (e.g., EHS and Environment Agency) to ensure legal/policy compliance and communicate updates to stakeholders.
    • Interface with other company facilities to share and adopt best practices.
    • Prepare for and participate in facility self-inspections, audits, and third-party assessments.
    • Provide facility-level guidance to develop and implement audit action plans with supporting documentation.
    • Obtain and maintain necessary environmental permits.
    • Request resources to manage regulated substance requirements related to environmental aspects of products.
  • Policies, Procedures, and Guidelines
    • Assist the facility leadership team in developing and implementing facility-specific EHS policies, practices, and procedures aligned with regional and corporate objectives.
    • Facilitate compliance with company procedures and guidelines.
    • Partner with the Site Leader to implement processes for injury analysis, risk assessment/reduction, and self-inspection.
    • Identify and develop Health & Safety, Sustainability, and Environmental capital investment opportunities.
    • Ensure EHS considerations are included in plant/product changes, acquisitions/dispositions, and capital projects.
    • Manage the EHS Metrics Dashboard for the facility and validate monthly data.
  • Management System
    • Establish and facilitate the implementation and sustainability of the facility-level integrated EHS management system.
    • Facilitate the annual review of the EHS management system.
    • Assist and guide facility leadership on EHS management system goals, objectives, and implementation plans.
    • Develop continuous improvement initiatives to align with EHS management system objectives.
    • Facilitate the development and implementation of environmental sustainability goals and track progress.
    • Coordinate and align facility EHS initiatives with regional and corporate guidance, policies, and objectives.
    • Identify relevant EHS training requirements and ensure appropriate training packages are developed and delivered.
    • Review training programs in line with changing policies/legislation.
  • Incidents
    • Assist Facility Leadership in implementing an effective system for responding to all incidents per company policy.
    • Ensure facility reports incidents as required by company policy.
    • Facilitate root-cause analysis and identification of effective countermeasures for EHS incidents.
  • Additional Duties
    • Provide EHS expertise and support as directed by the Site Leader and Corporate EHS leadership.
    • Support external and internal auditing processes for other facility locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in EHS, engineering, or a related field with an EHS management emphasis, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seven to ten years of experience with a wide range of EHS issues.

Skills

  • Ability to work and communicate with senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated understanding of EHS laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in industrial process risk assessment, hazard identification, and development of effective mitigation measures.
  • Proficiency in EHS consensus standards, regulatory compliance requirements, and controls (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, ACGIH, EPA, ANSI).
  • Demonstrated experience building and implementing injury prevention and EHS compliance programs.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Self-directed with excellent initiative and organizational skills.
